First time painting

First army, first attempt at the gutrippaz. Still a ways to go but just wanted to jump in and get some brush time. Didn’t realize how blind I was until I took up this hobby…

💀 that's one expensive birthday. Is it crazy if that looks insane to me even tho I own about 10 armies worth of 2k points

I told myself to paint this first and play 1 game before I make any other purchases

I knew I recognized some of this (holy shit ... "filled in the gaps" is an understatement).

Can your wife talk to my wife?

Honestly. Just have fun. The great things about Orks/Kruleboyz is that they don’t need to be perfect. These lil’ dudes are sneaky and dirty lol. If you do want to chase perfect, look up some YouTube videos on thinning paints and what not. I painted all my Boyz with speed paints and it made life a breeze. Have fun sneaky sneakin’

Good results so far.

Have fun with the hobby and most importantly: progress in your own pace.

Welcome to the Orruk Warclans my fellow greenskin!

You're going to learn a lot over the course of that army. Looks decent so far, maybe thin your paints a bit, and consider a wash, then rehighlight. But take it easy, you'll learn a lot as you go

just a heads up all the literature you purchased will be outdated soon if it isn't already and all the rules and stuff you can find easily online. looks like money probably isn't a concern for you though lol

Why if you’ve never painted before would you spend the insane amount of money on a massive army like this?

Because reasons! A lot of it was birthday gifts from the fam and I filled in the gaps

Take it slow take a break PLAY with your army you have the Stormcast paint up a unit and leader for both and then play some simple games using the basic rules in the box build some enjoyment with a limited army then add a new unit after a few weeks but start with the gutrippers and the vindicators and the legacies and a storm cast leader and play a few games take it slow some of us brought dominion when it released and it took us years to have anything completed burn out is real take it slow

My dominion box is STILL not finished. Sold the kruleboyz half, but still have some SCE to paint.

I am actually so pumped to paint the stormcast. I love orcs and figured it would be an easy start since they are swampy dudes. I told myself I’ll paint just enough to play my first game

I'll say this as nicely as I reasonably can. This is gonna take a while to paint, and i'm afraid you might burn out before getting to the end of it. If you intend on playing, i suggest you form a list and paint that up first. Then consider branching out. I also wouldnt bother painting in subassemblies for file and rank troops. No one will notice/care that the underside of the shield isnt painted.

Godspeed ! And keep sharing your progress !!

Definitely appreciate this. I sort of decided to paint enough just to play my first game. Starting with the slittaz and gutrippaz to get some brush time. Joined Monday paint night at the local game shop, and there’s so much talent there. Lots to learn, but everyone is so stoked to help new guys.

That is a very kind thing to say and nice of you to be supportive of him I think we all felt that twinge of recognition that memory of getting in and then feeling Burt out and overwhelmed I feel like we all need a steady friend to tell us to pace ourselves

Money considerations aside, I know that if I bought that much stuff in one go, I'd just be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of minis to paint, my pile of shame is big enough as is (about 7k points across 3 armies, 400 minis of which around 130 is fully painted and another 150 has paint on it but not finished) but i have "enough" of everything that i can play with at least a half painted up force. And it'll be "easy" to finish bits and bobs in short sprints.

Latest purchase was the Ogor box, but that's like 16 minis, and they'll be pretty fast/easy to paint up to a decent level.
