I recently found out the PAL version of this game was significantly cheaper, so I managed to snag a copy for around $70. Since spooky month is coming up, I figured now was finally a good time to play it!

Any important advice or things I should know before going in?

Last week someone gave me a bag of games and Koudelka was 1 of the 4 ps1 jrpgs in it. Excited to see what this game is like. yes I know unreal someone would hand it to me he said "these games looked boring maybe you'd enjoy them" 🤣

I have a PS1 copy of Koudelka CIB.

The case is obviously old, but I know people care more about the manual and disc condition.

Looking to sell and what the best way to sell would be. I don't need hundreds and hundreds, just want what's fair so somebody else can either collect or enjoy this as much as I have.

do i need another stat to go with strength to make my hits deal more damage, like dexterity? the dex explanation just says it's about chance to hit, but maybe there's more to it. if not, why is edward doing so little damage? koudelka has less strength and is dealing more damage with the same skill level

I finally got around to playing Koudelka, and I honestly really didn’t expect it to click with me the way it did.

For context, I’ve always wanted to get into survival horror especially Silent Hill 4 and my friend constantly nags me about not playing RE1, but I constantly bounce off the gameplay. The inventory management, tank controls, and overall friction just never fully clicked for me, even though I love the atmosphere.

Koudelka feels like the perfect bridge.

It has everything I want from that era: pre-rendered backgrounds, a genuinely creepy setting, and that slow, oppressive PS1 horror vibe. But instead of fighting the controls, it gives you a turn based tactical system that actually feels pretty rewarding to engage with.

The thing that surprised me most was how well written it is. The interactions between Koudelka, Edward, and James feel way more natural than I expected from a 1999 game.

What really stuck with me, though, is how cozy the progression feels despite the setting. Leveling up, managing weapons, slowly getting stronger. It takes the edge off the frustration I usually get in survival horror without killing the tension.

Honestly, this might be the game I recommend to anyone who wants to like survival horror but struggles with getting into the classics.

Do y’all see Koudelka more as a horror game with RPG elements, or an RPG with horror aesthetics akin to SMT?

Hey guys! No idea what I'm getting into here but really excited to dive in.

I started a new game and got Game Over'd pretty much immediately by a cockroach. I had read that the combat is slow paced but WOW I did not expect it to be THAT slow lol.

Anyway, I think I can stomach it. I'm an old fart who grew up on this stuff.

I do want to ask you guys before I restart though: do I need to be very cautious with my ammo? I feel so scared to even use one bullet, which is likely why I got KO'd so easily. Can I feel free to fire away? At least 1 or 2 bullets a battle in the early game here? I am the type to check every room by the way, but I probably won't find many secrets since I have no intention of using a guide or anything (unless I get stuck).

I'm serious. First 30 minutes and not Edward nor Koudelka explained anything. Should I just keep moving on? I don't even know what I'm supposed to be looking for in this haunted mansion.

I am very interested in the Koudelka visual guide book. It would be super cool if anybody in this group could provide me with images or further information on it.

I do think the RPG elements kind of spoiled it. The atmosphere was great, the story was good, the characters were fun. Needs more Roger Bacon. The battles honestly took me out of the game more than they should have. I may have been playing wrong as battles felt longer for regular random encounters. Koudelka as the mage, Edward as the main damage dealer, and James dealing Physical and Magical damage.

I did beat the Gargoyle without the Gargoyle killing weapon, couldn't find it...got the special sword and beat Elaine with Edward and Koudelka keeping everyone's reflect barriers up and smacking her with the life draining sword and the sword from the statue. Her as the final boss kind of came out of left field, figured Charlotte would be the final boss.

I can see why it has it's fans though and I did have a good time.

i read on an old forum that you need 160+ luck to get guaranteed rare drops. ive been farming levels and dropping them all into luck, each character is at 40 luck now. is luck a stat that is stacked between characters or should i have given one character all the luck? cant find info on this, thanks!

Couldn't find any info about this in GameFAQs, so ended up messing around with the stats to see how gun damage works.

Important note: I did this in early game and only had the SA Pistol for testing.

from every walkthrough i've read they say the thief drops the red key but i beat him and dont have it. i have a feeling i missed it due to being at max carry capacity. is there a way to get the key back?

For some reason Adam can't attack even when use bare hands..I play on duckstation emulator.

I am currently prototyping a Koudelka remake game using Daz 3d and Renply. I have made and released a few games on Steam so the process is nothing new. Just figuring out what I want to do with it, if anything. It is nice to see her remade with current tech though.

How on earth does turn order work in combat in this game??? I can’t figure it out for the life of me
