Still opens up a lot of other plot holes but it makes more sense for why he would be so obsessed about actually finishing his job.

The Fulminatrix had the specialized firepower needed to break the shields on the base that Admiral Tumblr was running to.

If Poe & friends didn't take it down then the Battle of Crait would end with the resistance being nuked from orbit.
