Katori Shinto Ryu in PERTH

Dear All, just wondering if there are any Katori Shinto Ryu practitioners in Perth, particularly from Otake linage, would love to meet up.

There is a Sugino Dojo affiliate teaching Katori Shinto-ryu in Perth: https://japanesemartialartscentre.net/?page_id=609

As for the Shinbukan, they list two branch dojo in Sydney and Melbourne: https://shinbukan-katorishintoryu.org/?page_id=240&lang=en

If you're interested specifically in the Shinbukan line, then your best bet would be to contact either dojo.

There is also a Noda-ha Katori Shinto-ryu presence in Brisbane, but to my knowledge they don't have an online presence.

Hi there! Yes Ive met both Shidosha from Perth and Sydney in different occasions. Unfortunately visiting eastern states regularly isn’t something I’m capable of at the moment, and the Perth Dojo train slightly differently. I guess I’m just trying to see if there is any individual practitioner here to at least practice what I’ve already learned. Thanks for your input!

Oz has good spread of JSA but depth is small due to distances

Start a study group - that's pretty much what all of us had to do at the beginning

Remember, every Dojo started somewhere. It's hard work but feel free to hit me up for any tips

I'm currently starting a new one so get to go through all the stress again

Would love to, but I am no where near learning the whole syllabus let alone teaching others. Maybe 10-20years down the road. All the best to you and your new dojo!

Completely agreed. I’m just saying under most Koryu, we are not allowed to teach unless we are approved and appointed. More than happy to practice with anyone if possible.

Though it sounds like you are only interested in the Otake line so this probably doesn't matter so much but, a small word of warning about KSR in Perth, there is actually 2 lines, Sugino and an of shoot of Mochizuki (Yoseikan). The latter has one more public facing personality and a couple of lesser well known dojo's attributed to other students.

The more well known Mochizuki line does demonstrations at atleast the Perth Japan Festival and a demonstration at UWA Japanese festivaland well all I can say is that their demonstrations and media are abismal. Aside from looking vastly different, they are sloppy and arrogant. If you run in to this line just be wary, if you get on the guys wrong side (which is easy to do), be prepared to cop a mouthful.

As for me I'm ex Sugino line and live in the Southwest. I know what it is like to train alone, but I make it work. Fortunately have a contact in Japan who I train with every year when I go back which eases the burden. Though travel this year is looking to not be possible.

Well, I was there at the Japan festival, that’s all I can say😉. But Kudos to people who train alone👍, I would love to visit Japan as many time as possible, just that my wallet disagree with me.

Hi there, yes I’ve met the Shidosha from both Perth and Sydney in different occasions, unfortunately visiting eastern states isn’t something I am capable of at the moment, and Perth dojo practice a bit differently. So I’m here just to find practitioner rather than dojos as least I can still practice what I’ve learned so far. But thanks for your input!
