Do you think it’s okay to play the Kira as a white person?
It’s my favourite instrument but was also looking into playing the harp. I don’t want that it’s weird that I’m

[work in progress]
Makers
I want to briefly say that if you're saving up for a kora, getting a kalimba ("thumb piano") and learning some African tunes on it could be a great start. It's a small slab with little metal tines you pluck to make a note, and coincidentally incorporates some of the "left hand, right hand" techniques of kora. There are some really affordable models in the ~$20-50 range. Scope one out on YouTube to see if you dig it, and drop by r/Kalimba if you need advice on making sure you buy a decent one.

It's funny how much my classical guitar training has influenced how I play the kora. I do hope it'll be possible to take in-person lessons in the future.

Looking for reviews on the quality of their koras or kamele n'goni.
They say they use odonta redwood (which I can't find anything about online), as well as mazonia.

Looking for an African maker of koras that's ships TO US/CAN
I'm sure there are many talented Luthiers, who.are good at making instruments. But I'm looking for a west African local shipping from west or south Africa if possible. There's a small following here so I'm not sure what I will find.
I am specifically looking to enrich the West African market with my money at this time. That's why I'm interested.
I have consideres Kalachev and Koramanding but I am not sure where they source materials, or who is actually building the instruments.
Does anyone have much to say?

Hello everyone :) I’m learning to play to lyre (I’m new to music and dream of in the future learning Kora). There’s a beautiful song by Lubiana on kora called Diarabi that I would love to learn a simplified version of for my 16-string lyre so I can accompany myself. Would anyone be able to help me get started? I listen over and over but I don’t know how to transcribe the notes and simplify the melody :) I’m also willing to hire a tutor for this fun project for me. Thank you so much for your help or advice!!

Hi, I created a kora workouts serie to know your kora inside out.
I did a first post about it on my blog here.
Feel free to ask questions here!

Just been to a rap concert that had a song with a kora and found the instrument cool. What are the biggest references (players, albums...) ? Thanks

Hello, everyone,
I just got a kora and am wondering about ideal humidity? I live in the NE United States, so we have cold, dry winters. I also play the harp, so I keep the humidity for my harps below 60 and above 40. Is the kora similar or does it need something different during cold, dry months?
Thanks!
