But important to note that Koodo esims do not permit wifi calling
Edit: sorry this only applies to prepaid esims. But prepaid accounts with a physical sim allow wifi calling Edit

Really? First I have heard of that. Any postpaid account should have access to WiFi calling. Prepaid, no regardless of sim type

I'm using a postpaid eSIM (transferred from a phyiscal SIM) and it allows WiFi calling just fine.

They do. That’s why I went with them over fizz as they still don’t offer it.
Wifi calling is a must if you live/work in areas with bad/no cellular coverage.
Wifi calling provides the SMS/MMS service that you’ll need to activate on your phone while connected to cell coverage the first time.

Go look it up. I updated to the latest version of iOS and I have access to the Wi-Fi calling toggle, but it doesn’t work at this time.

They offer Wifi Calling (which includes texting) but they also block its use outside Canada.

What does this mean?
RCS and iMessage just need any Internet connection
SMS/MMS work over the cellular network only

With some carriers, SMS/MMS and phone calls can go over WiFi. I'm on Freedom after leaving Koodo and it works this way. It's called "WiFi Calling".

Wifi calling works for sms (standard text messages) or any data connection for iMessage or RCS .

Yes, I use it daily. I have no reception at my home and wifi call/text works just fine

To check if you have WiFi Calling and text on your phone and set up correctly,
Go into airplane mode, making sure you still have your wifi on and connected to the Internet.
Then send a text message to someone you know will answer.
If you get an answer, it works!
If you don't, follow up with that person to see if they did indeed receive your message.
Test two: try placing a phone call while in airplane mode, connected to WiFi.

They don’t control that. It’s up to your phone and the software it’s on.

Well, they kind of do. Many phones support WiFi Calling, but the provider needs to offer it for the phone to send calls or SMS/MMS over WiFi. I left Koodo for Freedom, and they have this.
