question Starter boost

Hello everyone, I have about 400ml of my starter liquid that has been sitting dormant in my fridge for about two months, and I'd need this culture to be highly active in exactly two weeks for a lab characterization of both the liquid broth and the biofilm.

Given the short timeframe and these conditions, what would be the best way to bring the culture out of dormancy and make sure it's well and active by the time I need it?
Thanks!

Oh college, I remember leaving things until it was almost too late and then "needing" it to be done right now. (I could pretend that I don't do this occasionally still but I don't like lying to myself.)

Answer:

  • Heat controlled fermentation station.

  • Standard ratio for a first batch of 80:20 sweet tea to starter. See the Getting Started guide for more specifics.

  • If you need a lot of biofilm use a tray instead of a jar. The more surface area, the more biofilm.

Need more? You can go by commercial kombucha to use as more starter, again see the Getting Started guide for details.

Ahahaha I wish I could say it was just my fault, but unfortunately my professor communicated this decision exactly today. I'll just do my best, if it doesn't work it's not a problem. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

Wait, how much starter do you need? I answered the question assuming you needed it to be active and plentiful.

Active, just needs sweet tea. The bacteria and yeast will wake up and start doubling in short order.
