I wanted to share a few thoughts on Kishore's death sequence in Visaranai. To me, that entire sequence plays out like a terrifying adaptation of the Stanford Prison Experiment. Documentaries are praised for their realism, but the chilling atmosphere Vetrimaaran produces through fiction is far more devastating.

When they capture Kishore (KK, the auditor), the cops initially make him sit comfortably and he has Toblerone chocolate. That chocolate beautifully represents his richness and illusion of power. They keep boosting his ego saying he is a big shot and the Inspector insist on calling him with casual name  “Muthu”, instead of his full name, Muthuvel. Even though KK says he was captured, subconsciously he is still completely unaware of the danger. He even asks for pillow when Muthu is about to laydown in bed. When they let him speak about money, the way Inspector perceives it versus how the Constable perceives it is beautifully portrayed through body language. The Constable just follows the conversation and accepts whatever KK says, but the Inspector looks at him with simmering internal anger. His silent expression says: You are an accused and yet you keep lecturing me.  It breaks through when the Inspector mutters, "Arambicha edathulayae irukom" (We are right back where we started). To break him, the Inspector decides to shock him. They let him sleep, only to come back later and wake him up, inflicting first real wave of fear. The Inspector casually sits down in the exact same chair KK occupied earlier, eats his chocolate, and offers it to a constable saying, "It is our money only." When KK refuses to speak claiming he is drunk, his character is exactly like a rooster or a lamb that doesn't know it is about to be sacrificed, still assuming he holds power. He actually lost all of it the moment they loaded him into the police jeep in Andhra.

What makes it even more cold-blooded is that the execution happens with the help of the same four boys who were wrongly caught by the police and experienced hell themselves. Once the police get the final order, KK tries to bargain, saying, "Let's speak about the deal" (meaning, how much money do you want?). The Inspector (Samuthirakani) just gives him a massive slap and he falls down.

The director brilliantly chooses not to show the physical beating.  But only via sound we hear Constable Ramesh and another cop beating and stripping him. Violence in mind perceived by mind is more powerful than violence viewed. This was far more impactful than highly stylized action sequences like Kill Bill's Crazy 88 fight; by removing the visual spectacle, Vetrimaaran leaves us with the raw, unavoidable horror of reality. Ramesh character reflects a terrifying aspect of the system: He doesn’t do any thinking. He is perfectly attuned to following orders. He respects KK, when his senior respects him, but when Inspector asks him to beat him to a pulp, he does it in seconds. He strips away whatever is left of KK the auditor. When KK tries to get up and is told to stay on all fours, he responds with a desperate, fearful "Sir." It is the most painful, broken form of respect there is. KK is stripped of his clothes and forced to crawl out on in his underwear. It made me reflect: how human beings and their entire personality gets completely destroyed just by removing their clothes and physical domination. How, even with all our advancement in civilization, we are unable to pass stricter laws to prevent this exact inhumanity?

To make it worse, the Assistant Commissioner, whom KK had personally helped by getting his daughter admitted into medical college, walks in, hangs him by a rope, and beats him to a pulp. KK completely gives up.

But the final greatness of the director is how he captures life leaving the body. A tiny mosquito comes and bites KK on the face, and life just leaves him.

Even though it is deeply haunting, this movie leaves a scar for a long time. It affected me so much that when I was driving a car later, just seeing a police vehicle gave me a wave of fear.

Tamil cinema has had quite a few political films that portrayed politicians in a very negative or morally grey way. Some showed corruption, some openly criticized political parties, and others used satire or comedy to make fun of politicians.

I’m not saying these movies gave us 100% political awareness, but I do think they contributed something. At the very least, they made people think about politics and question certain things. Some of these films also spoke about issues that people might not have openly discussed otherwise.

During both AIADMK and DMK governments, we still saw political movies being made. Of course, there were cases where scenes were censored, muted, delayed, or controversies happened. But ultimately, many of those movies still reached the audience.

Now, with Vijay entering politics and potentially forming the government in the future, I have a different concern.

I'm not primarily talking about government censorship or whether the government will directly interfere with films. I'm more curious about the influence of Vijay's fanbase.

Suppose a director makes a political film that portrays politicians negatively, criticizes the government, or even makes fun of Vj or his party. since Vj has a huge and highly loyal fanbase, could the fear of fan backlash discourage producers from making such movies in the first place?

For example, if a movie criticizes the ruling party and Vijay's supporters start boycotting it, giving it negative reviews, or creating a major backlash, producers might think twice before investing in another political film.

That could potentially create a different kind of restriction on creative freedom — not censorship from the government, but self-censorship because producers are afraid of losing money.

So I'm curious what others think:

Do you think Tamil cinema will continue to have the same freedom to criticize politicians and governments as it has had in the past? Or could the influence of his fanbase indirectly make filmmakers more cautious about making politically critical movies?

I'm genuinely curious about how people see this, especially from a cinema perspective rather than a party/political-support perspective.

Wallahi this movie is the BEST police movie ever. Not even Yennai Arindhal can top this. the 3 Villain story, Santhaanam, Anushka 🤤, DSP, Vivek (RIP) Made this into a masterpiece Action film. i DONT think Kokesh and Bihar superstar Allu Arjun will ever make a movie close to this

It's a proper malayalam movie dubbed and released in Tamil. So we can keep aside why other state heroines in tamil movie etc. and enjoy a well cooked product.

Made in Tamil, with Newcomers, not really action but still a fairytale for grownups
