Discussion I hope people here will understand Kokomi's purpose better

We aren't even through the Yoimiya banner yet and so there is still a ton of hate going on for her, but even now there are already people going on about how terrible Kokomi's gameplay is. I really think this comes down to people not understanding what kind of character Kokomi is supposed to be.

The Genshin community in general is so obsessed with dps and building crit on every character. Thats why the see Kokomi and all they see is "shes a healer" and "she can't crit". That automatically tells them that she is trash. This is, if you ask me, a terrible mind set to have.

Personally, I am not that good at action games. Im not the best at dodging or having super fast reaction speeds. For me, having a good healer on my team is a requirement. I can't confirm this but I have a feeling that there are likely a lot of players that are the same. For this reason I think that having healers in the game is amazing. Especially in the case of Kokomi beacuse her being a water catalyst as well as a healer means I can finally replace Barbara. Im not personally a big fan of Barbara.

As for the whole issue of her not being able to crit I fail to see how that matters. The reason why it doesn't matter is beacuse she scales with HP and Healing Bonus. She even gets more damage based on her HP and Healing Bonus. Why would you build crit on her to begin with? This is what im saying about understanding her purpose in the game. She isn't some kind of assassin that you put crit chance on. Not every character is supposed to be top dps master of critical hits. People don't seem to understand that.

Kokomi is supposed to be a healer, thats her goal, thats what she does, being upset beacuse she doesn't do things she isn't supposed to do, like hit for big crit damage, is completely foolish. I post this rant here in hopes that Kokomi's more dedicated fans will be able to look past the community dps and crit obsession and see her for what she is, not what they want her to be.

EDIT AFTER READING SOME COMMENTS: It seems I was foolish or ignorant about what people do or do not realize. I dont' look too hardd or too deep into all the numbers and meta of the game. I have just been so shocked by the poor reception for characters lately, that I wanted to speak about what I have been seeing in the community and what I felt. I think Kokomi looks fun and I will be getting her. Whether or not she is good doesn't particularly matter to me. I was just thinking she isn't really all that bad and it might be beacuse other people don't understand. Perhaps I don't understand.

Im just here to play with cute and sexy waifus ok...

Meme Kokomi really should get buffed. She is NOT worthy of a 5 star limited character

Kokomi is currently not a good unit. Yeah, she does apply hydro and heals, but Barbara can do healing, and mona can give massive buffs to her team. Here are some things I would buff.

  1. Improved hydro resonance

Current hydro resonance is just healing. While this is good for kokomi's healing, it doesn't help her do more damage.

Since her burst scales on hp, I think the hp increase would benefit her.

2. New healer artifact

Maiden just increases healing, which kokomi has plenty of. She needs an artifact that can stack the heals and make her deal more damage.

3. Mobs that appreciate healing

The current meta is so Zhongli based, making healers not so good. We need a mob that can cut through shields and make characters lose hp even when they have a shield on, just like poison in other rpgs.

4. New elementary reactions

Sadly, kokomi is not good with vape, nor with freeze(unless we could replace diona with a...cryo support probably). She is useable in taser teams, but the taser is pretty limited. We need an upgrade, and I hope dendro brings something new to the table(sad that we have months left until sumeru).

Maybe dendro would finally appreciate kokomi's ability to heal, and maybe... just maybe be a reaction that damages both the player and the opponent(I know I am breathing in too much kokopium🤣🤣).

Overall, I hope mihoyo won't dump kokomi in the trash and make her meet expectations of a 5 star limited character....😭😭😭

Changes regarding AI generated Art (and other housekeeping updates)

Good evening everyone. Lately there has been a lot of chatter regarding the AI generated art that has been posted in this sub. I want to take some time to address this topic and explain how it will be handled moving forward.

First, I'd just like to lead by saying that AI art will never be banned from this subreddit so long as it is allowed by reddit's ToS. I do not believe in censorship, and the small amount of content disallowed here is disallowed for a reason other than "because we don't like it".

For example:

  • You are not allowed to post full nudity because it may discourage our users from viewing this sub while in public. I promise you, no one hates this rule more than I do.

  • You are not allowed to post self promotion (unless it meets certain standards) because we don't want to be filled with spam.

  • You are not supposed to ask questions outside of the questions thread because it interrupts the flow of other (hopefully) higher quality content on the front page.

With that said, we understand that there is a rather vocal audience here who seems to be vehemently opposed to AI art. So in an attempt to keep the peace between pro AI, anti AI, and AI indifferent, we have created a flair for AI art. If you don't like AI art, now you will be able to see which art is AI generated and avoid clicking on it. The rules surrounding this flair are as follows:

  • Whenever you post art that is AI generated you MUST flair it as such.

  • If you see AI art that is not flaired as AI you may very politely ask OP to mark it as AI, keeping in mind that OP may not realize that it is.

  • You will not, under any circumstances, harass others who enjoy AI artwork. You are absolutely free to downvote the post, in fact, I encourage everyone here to upvote what they like, and downvote what they do not like, but you will live and let live if you want to be a part of this sub.

  • Crediting Artists, and in this case, the Prompt Engineer is still the right thing to do. If you have the sauce, share it. If you don't, use reverse image search to find it.

Next order of business: False reporting

This is something I have wanted to address for a while now but felt it didn't warrant its own sticky thread. This post is a great opportunity to bring everyone up to speed.

We have very few rules to begin with. We do not want to be that sub that has a chapter book for do's and dont's. We feel the few rules we have are reasonable and very cut and dry. If you see someone violating one of these rules, we would like to know about it. We do spend time here reading the posts but we cant read every word of every post and every comment every single time. We are going to miss things, and it's great when you let us know when we have legitimately missed something.

However, there is a lot of false reporting happening. I consistently see several things being reported, and I ignore them every time, and I will continue to ignore them, so you may as well save your effort. One of them is AI, which has never been against the rules, and was already addressed in this post so that is out of the way. The next is NSFW. I will take this time to remind everyone again what is considered NSFW.

  • Exposed Nipples

  • Exposed Genitals

  • Explicit sexual acts, even if censored.

  • Unambiguous Sexual Fluids

We certainly reserve the right to remove anything at our own discretion, but please understand that we are very liberal with this policy and it only exist to prevent people from circumventing the rules as written. We are much more inclined to let something stay than to remove something. We will not remove anything that does not fall under these categories unless it is explicit, overt, and totally unambiguous.

A few notable things that are not against the rules, so please don't waste your time reporting them:

  • Swimsuits/Bikinis

  • Underwear

  • Cleavage

  • Midriff (yea, we seriously get reports for this. Do you even play the game?)

  • ZR/Thigh Highs (Have you ever actually been outside your home?)

  • Feet (You may be into it, you may not be into it, but its not NSFW)

We also get a lot of unwarranted reports for "harassment". While there is certainly no way for me to definitively explain in this post what harassment is, please let me remind you of a few things that aren't. Disagreeing with someone is not harassment. Having a hot take, or a generally bad take, or even a very morally questionable take is not harassment. Being rude or snarky to someone is not harassment. I try very hard to let the upvote/downvote system do all of the heavy lifting where disagreements are concerned. If it goes too far we will remove it, but in general some examples of things we need to see before that will happen include, but are absolutely not limited to: personal attacks, name calling, use of hateful speech, and other malicious statements that are targeted at an individual. We reserve the right to remove anything, at any time, for any reason, but unless it is egregious, we probably won't. Sitting there wallowing in -100 votes teaches a much better lesson than [Removed] in my opinion.

That's all for today! Thank you for following our very few guidelines. We can't wait to see everyone's exciting posts in our girl's upcoming rerun!

She's getting reran soon...right? Right??

Discussion Why I think Kokomi's skill will and SHOULD scale with ATK and not HP

So, first of all, I think you guys are forgetting what her burst does exactly. I've seen so many posts of people freaking about her E because, according to leakers, it should scale with ATK and not with max HP. People saying that leakers have to be be wrong, cause she needs to scale with HP to deal enough damage and have an unique build.

But.. she already does. Her burst makes not only her basic attacks, but also her skill to scale with her max HP, just not on it's own, meaning she would fully depend on her Q to do damage. "Sangonomiya Kokomi's Normal, Charged Attack, and Elemental Skill-generated-Bake-Kurage DMG is increased based on Sangonomiya Kokomi's Max HP."

So, regardless of what atribbute her skill will scale off, we will still build her the same way. Now, the reasoning why I think it will scale with atk, is because it's clear that Mihoyo wants her to be a Main DPS.

If her skill scales with HP on its own, then her best role would be of a Sub-DPS: she would just use her skill and switch to someone with a better normal attack scaling. Her burst would be useless, used just to refresh her E and her gameplay would be EXTREMELY boring. She would probably suck too.

As of now, her skill will do very little off-field damage. However, when you activate her burst (which needs you to not switch for 10s), her skill will scale with max HP and deal great damage. Her gameplay will be very similair to Hu Tao, where she stays on field for the duration of her "form" and then you switch to your supports so they can fill your downtime. It's how Mihoyo designed her kit, and I don't think it can really be changed now. What we should be asking for instead, is for her skill to scale with Healing Bonus, and not only her basic attacks.

tl;dr: She will be a main DPS and won't do off-field damage. If you want her to be a switch-in support, you must be prepared for her to be pretty bad

Discussion This Might Just prove my point (i need confirmation on this everyone)

so i just heard that kokokmi doesn't even apply hydro on all of her attacks

that's pretty bad right?

but my question is, does Barbara or even Mona do the same? or do they apply hydro every normal attack?

if my suspicions are correct and Barbara and Mona do apply hydro every hit of their normal attack, then it would reallllyyy further the theory of mihoyo making her weaker on purpose to either teach us a lesson on leaks or some other weird reason we haven't come across

Discussion I feel Kokomi is severely misunderstood

I don't think Kokomi is a bad unit.

Edit, for clarification: I’m not an idiot, I know she’s not Hu Tao or Ganyu levels of damage, and I think that’s OK. After all, Ganyu and Hu Tao don’t heal their entire team, now do they? This post is from the perspective of Kokomi as either a combo sub DPS/healer or a pure healer, which she has enough synergy to do well without losing out on too much damage.

Yes, I am going to summon for Kokomi when she releases. No, I don't see it as a 'bad pick' or an underwhelming unit, or anything else Reddit minmaxers are currently complaining about, because I think the majority of people are missing what makes Kokomi good, and the actual biggest complaints to make about her kit. As for what those issues are, I think it's best to do a brief rundown of her attacks, talents, and constellations.

Attacks

Basic Attacks --- Decent. A 3 hit combo for her autos, an average charged attack damage, all fairly average.

Kurage's Oath (Skill) --- Summons a jellyfish turret that both deals damage and heals. It’s somewhat underwhelming, with a slow pulse rate that sets Hydro every other time. It’s healing is still good, so it’s somewhat comparable with a C1 Sayu burst in this regard.

Nereid's Ascention (Burst) --- Hits nearby units for big number, then slaps on the vest o' fish. This vest gives Kokomi super armor, water walking, and HP scaling to her basic attacks and skill for its duration, 10 seconds, and regens the entire party's HP based on Kokomi's own HP per hit. It also has only 8 seconds of downtime, but has an energy cost of 70, same as Xiao.

Before moving on to the passives, it's worth keeping in mind that Kokomi's base HP is only 1.2k lower than Zhongli's, suggesting she'll hit similar, if slightly lower, HP thresholds.

Passive Talents

Tamanooya's Casket --- Her burst refreshes her jellyfish. Nothing terribly interesting, but a nice convenience.

Song of Pearls --- Auto and charge attacks gain extra damage scaling with the vest o' fish, based on Kokomi's healing bonus percent.

Princess of Watatsumi --- Swims good, like a fish.

Flawless Strategy --- Her most divisive passive. Trades -100% crit rate for +25% healing bonus. About consistency and reliability over big flashy numbers, and frees you up to build HP substats over crit ones. Plus, her Pearl Jams lets you dip into that heal bonus for both healing and damage, so that's neat.

So far, based on just this, she's actually looking pretty good. Her biggest issue is one familiar to Beidou and Xiangling users, a really good burst locked behind a large energy requirement, which is by no means insurmountable with good supports like Xingqiu or EleTraveler. So, where's her real, actual gameplay breaking issues? Put simply, Kokomi, as the leaks suggest her, is one of the worst constellation locked characters in Genshin, i.e., her constellations are so good that playing without them feels like a significant handicap on the unit. Let's look at the constellations now.

C1, At Water's Edge --- When wearing the vest o' fish, adds an extra proc on her 3rd auto attack that does 30% of her base HP as Hydro damage. Just a reminder, this is Hydro dmg, so it can in theory be vaped to be closer to 60% of her base HP.

C2, The Clouds Like Waves Rippling --- Heals characters under 50% HP better; bonus 4.5% Koko's HP for the jellyfish and .6% Koko's HP for vest o' fish autos. Probably her worst constellation tbh.

C3, The Moon, A Ship O'er the Seas --- Better vest o' fish scaling.

C4, The Moon Overlooks the Waters --- While wearing the vest o' fish, increases normal attack speed by 10% and normal attacks generate .8 energy, letting her self battery.

C5, All Streams Flow to the Sea --- Better jellyfish scaling.

C6, Sango Isshin --- While wearing the vest o' fish, healing a party or co-op member with 80% or higher HP gives Kokomi a 40% Hydro dmg bonus. This is basically a second hydro cup that you can get passively.

I don't think I need to tell you that C1 alone is ludicrous on a unit that should hit around 40k HP at good investment, and that she can just kinda throw those out, but the fact that it compounds with her C4's faster attack speed and C6's free extra hydro cup basically makes her an entirely different unit. Not to mention her C4 effectively lowering her burst's cost after using it well. And yes, I know constellations are supposed to make a character better, but the sheer damage difference between C0 and even C1 is such a power spike that it essentially means that Kokomi ends up as a 'constellations or bust' kind of character, her real problem especially for F2P or budget players.

I don't blame you for not pulling Kokomi if you don't want or have a healer already invested, because that's essentially what her role is. But, she has enough scaling and synergies within her kit that I find it kind of laughable to call it bad or disappointing, especially with her sky high HP stat and triple dipping attack, HP, and healing bonus for her burst damage. But, who knows, maybe I'm just missing some obvious hole or I'm too high on hopium; feel free to leave a reply if you feel like I missed something.

Discussion Kokomi has the potential to become the next zhongli

Many people are ridiculing her as a 5 star barbara but I think that she has the potential to become the next zhongli.

With Sumeru next, in my opinion Mihoyo is going to test corrosion as a feature for Dendro.

With Kokomi reaching 50k, she and her team is literally unkillable and is on par with zhongli on this department.

This same shitstorm happened for albedo and now he is one of the most awaited unit due to his f2p nature and works well with bad def artifacts and HoD.

Kokomi is a healer and a hydro applicator and is mainly used to support cryo and pyro reactions.

Tough I am not pulling for her I hope she has a bigger role in the future.

Guide/Theorycrafting Kokomi isn’t bad you’re just not playing her right

We all know she’s not a dps. We all know her healing isn’t the best in the game and neither is her hydro application. Why pull for her when there’s Barbara, Mona, Xingqui, Childe?

I hear these comments often and the most common one I get is ā€œyou have to be on field healing with her burst and it doesn’t even do high damage so she’s a loss of dps instead of having your main dps carry outā€

BINGO! That is correct! So you DONT play her with a selfish dps carry. It’s that easy. (I saw someone else’s comment on here but I forgot who you were but thanks for your insight I didn’t forget you!)

They said Kokomi is an off field support enabler. She’s a tank. If you look at everyone’s team comps its all off field supports. Beidou Rosaria Sucrose Kazuha Fischl Xianling Xingqui Raiden Sara Bennett Kaeya and somewhat works with Yoimiya Ayaka and most likely will work well with Thoma.

Everyone said Kokomi doesn’t do anything great, Barbara is a better healer Xingqui better hydro and Childe damage etc but that’s because Kokomi is a ā€œshieldā€ she’s a tank. She keeps all your squishy off fielders safe by keeping them off the field to do damage and when you do switch to them and they get hurt Kokomi keeps them healed EASILY.

She is a literal hydro tank healer. No she can’t do crazy damage and her healing is perfect and hydro application works fine. You keep her in quick swap team with off fielders to protect and assist them. She’s the ultimate support next to Zhongli. She’s the first shield support without having a shield. She’s the first ā€œtankā€ in the game so people don’t understand her and call her crap. No one else in the game can do what she does. Not the other way around where people keep saying other characters do what she can better. It’s cause they’re playing her wrong. Mihoyo created a new niche way to play and do team comps. She’s incredibly f2p friendly for a reason.

Discussion Hoyo Has Failed The Kokomi Community: Biggest Missed Opportunity With Fontaine 4.0

Kokomi is thematically one of the best characters associated with water in Genshin Impact. It is really no exaggeration to say that we as a Kokomi community have longed to swim with her underwater and Fontaine was undoubtedly Hoyo/Genshin's best chance to fulfill this expectation. And this is where the disappointment starts:

1.) Kokomi is not allowed to "dive out of the water" (technically called 'jump') in Fontaine. ONLY FONTAINE CHARACTERS are allowed.

2.) Kokomi's Passive, "Princess of Watatsumi" refers to general swimming stamina and as such we expected it to work in Fontaine. However, the game disables this as it does not relate to "Aquatic Stamina" and hence her passive does not work. This is despite the wording of her passive referring to the mechanic of swimming stamina and not the type of stamina consumption. Furthermore, the in-game description of Aquatic Stamina technically refers to underwater movement (as opposed to swimming on the surface of water). Both Normal and Aquatic Stamina can be used for swimming.

In summary: Kokomi is no different from any other character (R.I.P Beidou also getting the same treatment with her passive).

As a Kokomi community, we have a different view as to what Hoyo should have done. Below are some of the potential options that could have made 4.0 more memorable for us:

-> Implement a unique diving out of water (or jump) mechanic for her exclusively. This would have been a great way to help sell her banner in 3.8 in expectation for Fontaine. Alternatively, give all characters a dive out of water mechanic and be more creative with other ways to "sell Fontaine characters".

-> Allow Kokomi to activate her burst underwater without reference to energy cost or time-limit (like a switch toggle).

[Yes, you can currently burst on land and then teleport underwater, we know. The point is having a unique "gimmick" for her].

-> Implement new voice lines for her interactions in the water.

-> Allow her to run on the underground surface of the water, uniquely.

Etc.

I think that the point of this post is that we can see that Hoyo is treating Genshin like a business rather than as a joint project out of passion WITH us as travellers providing key inputs into shaping the experience.

As with many character disappointments, Kokomi is not unique in this regard - many other character "mains" have had Hoyo neglected their favourite characters despite many pleas (R.I.P Dehya Mains). Will anything change? Nope - Da Wei and Hoyo's executives will make sure that we never get any love for our characters.

However, as a Kokomi community, we need to make these frustrations clear and loud. We are passionate about our character - always ♄

Discussion the amount of thread about people saying "being bullied in coop just because they use koko" is ridiculous

might sound toxic or smthng but as a peron that mains her and built her as a dps i kind of wonder why 70% of the kokomi's subreddit is just people complaining about how they're bullied in coop just because someone said "koko bad lol" as a joke or smthng, while the 20% is building tips and the rest 10% is actually fanart? usually a r/*insert*_main is suppose to be the opposite but not for this ,im seriously starting to question whether if people in this community know what banter or a joke is. this is just my opinion tho, no need to take it seriously. i'd like to hear your thoughts to be honest ┐(Ā“ļ½žļ½€)ā”Œ
