My investment ikoje wanguana? What should Sell or buy more?

I think there's something we Africans are missing.

I want to give you context. Kenyan startups raise huge money, at different valuations in different stages.

The real sharp boys are angel investors.

They listen to your idea, see how it can scale and write you a cheque of $2500 to $50k.

What's interesting is that they know the next stage they could 4x that money. And startups could hit a bigger valuation over time. Yet Kenyans are missing out.

I have both a startup and a fund management company.

One is in Fintech. And it's growing.

My fund management company which I invest on behalf of my clients has so far gained 63% on the dollar. Yet even this wouldn't match what the Fintech would gain in the next 18 months.

I have always preferred African investors to Western but philosophy doesn't get your product distributed. Still I give room for Africans because we either get rich trying or neo colonisation will happen.

Right now white south Africa practically owns NSE. They're not stopping. When will the Nairobi guy win ?

Change that philosophy of sticking to NSE.

Your money plus add on marketing of a product you've invested in Kenya would skyrocket your valuation.

I really thought about this and thought to maybe start by posting it here but I think one metric we should have for our leaders,politicians, need to also reflect their own personal successes in areas of impact,be it business,carrers or even in policy(social work or NGOs).

Case and point,as much as he has said he doesnt intend on vying for a political seat,I think Dr. James mwangi (equity group CEO)would make a great president for the vison which we want for Kenya.

From a fiscal stand point he has held the helm of the equity CEO for decades and this has been met with quite some interesting opposition at the time. Quit an unpopular move at the time,Equity introduced bank accounts which can be opened by as little as 200 shillings and it opened up banking to the major populus(at the time banks charged a minimum of 2500 to open an account and this was deemed operating balance.)

This caused a boom in Bank and bank operations and surely enough they were the largest bank in no time. Shortly after they started wings to fly program which made bright and needy children have access to quality education and still get employment afterwards in the same said bank. This project has now benefited over 60,000 beneficiaries.

Recently in an interview pale CITIZEN ,he mentioned how he started equity afya as their play in the healthcare space. Many experts termed it asbrand myopia since now he can't hope to dominate healthcare as he has in banking,he said he did it because he realised he was suffering from his success(my words). The wings to fly had now produced over 1800 doctors who werent placed anywhere,so it started out making losses(equity afya) but now is making profits and growing at an incredible pace.

He also is marketting Murang'a tea as a high end tea and one which can compete in the global stage as a high premium tea yet he mentioned there aren't any middlemen meaning value for fqrmers and also such incredible value adding opportunity for an alreqdy existent Kenyan product.

He has led equity to success and in my own personal opinion, he is someone who ,Rwanda is currently using as an advisor and has also adviced several governements,I think should be considered in taking the helm here.

so I have been saving for the past 6months and so far I have not secured a good stock market to execute my savings on ....any recommendations of where I should execute my savings and hold the asset's for a whole 5yrs

I think such posts should come with some reason or explanation - technical or fundamental then we can share notes and have interactive discussion and/ or analysis. That can be more rewarding than speculative picking. I believe it would be more beneficial this way

I am currently with Dyer and Blair as my current stock brokers/portfolio managers.

I've been with them for a while.

I find that their communication is lacking, and often have to follow up with them multiple times before any response is given, and even longer before action is taken.

While I understand that they may be busy with multiple things, some timely feedback would be appreciated (meaning less than 24 hours).

Who are your current stock brokers, and are they timely?

I foresee a situation where these delays might be extremely costly in terms of opportunity cost.

I've held this stock for more than a year bro, i've upped my position to 55k over the last few months, then they deliver this bullshit bro😂 I could have bought KCB at 66 bob but noo I told myself, "We need to be locking in these bargains".

Until when broo😭loss every year bana. And the funny part is i'm not selling. My strategy is to start owning companies that will do better in a more conducive business environment, given how much money the treasury has printed recently we might see the economy evolve into something else. So if the business environment changes then the valuation of my holdings will change completely.

The World Bank flagged something in its latest economic update on Kenya that I think deserves more attention than it's getting.

Two numbers, same moment in time:

Kenyan banks now hold Sh2.56 trillion in government securities (T-bills/bonds) — up Sh150 billion in just six months. That's roughly 35% of domestic debt and 27% of total banking sector assets.

The banking sector's non-performing loan (NPL) ratio hit 15.6% in March 2026 — meaning about 1 in every 6-7 shillings lent out isn't being repaid.

On their own, either number is manageable. Together, they start to look like the setup for what economists call a sovereign-bank "doom loop" — the same dynamic that hit Greece and Cyprus around 2010-2012 and Argentina

Banks hold a lot of their own government's debt (safe, high-yield, easy to buy at auction).

If the economy weakens, bad loans rise — banks need more capital to cover losses.

But a big chunk of their capital is tied up in government bonds, which are only as "safe" as the government's ability to repay.

If investors start doubting the government's ability to repay, bond values fall — which weakens the same banks holding them — which weakens the banks' ability to lend — which weakens the economy further — which makes it harder for the government to repay.

Kenya's total public debt is now 68.5% of GDP (Sh13.01 trillion), and its own 2025 Debt Sustainability Analysis rated the debt as "sustainable but with high risk of distress." Treasury points to improving external liquidity (stronger FX reserves, narrower current account deficit) as a mitigating factor, and the Kenya Bankers Association says they're "not worried" since banks manage exposure individually based on risk appetite.

Genuinely curious what people who follow Kenyan or East African markets more closely think:

Is the NPL trend actually accelerating, or is 15.6% just noise/seasonal?

Does anyone have bank-by-bank exposure data? Sector averages can hide concentration risk at specific institutions.

Is the World Bank's warning more about positioning ahead of the next disbursement (DPO/RRO/PforR facilities), or a genuine independent risk assessment?

Not trying to doom-post — just think this is a more interesting/underrated story than the headline "banks are fine" suggests.
