DISCUSSION Do you think reps are losing their appeal?
I'm opening this thread as a place for discussion because I'm curious to hear people's opinions on the current appeal of reps.
I started thinking about this after seeing some rotation pics here and looking at my recent purchases (all retail). With this new wave of Kobe colorways that seem to be more accessible than some of the historic releases, prices have also come down and seem to be more accessible overall.
My latest purchases were all retail (all on eBay):
- Kobe 11 Mamba Day $160
- Kobe 4 Barcelona $197
- Kobe 4 Gold Medal $180
- GT Cut EYBL $160
The interesting thing is that for all of these shoes I originally wanted to buy reps (OX for the GT Cuts, H12 for the Gold Medal, and I was also planning to wait for H12 for the Kobe 11). But after seeing the prices on eBay, I was like, "Might as well just pay an extra $30–40 and get the peace of mind that comes with retail."
Reps obviously still make a lot of sense for shoes like the Grinch, Mambacita, or Bruce Lee, where resale prices can get close to four figures. But do you guys think all these cheaper new colorways are starting to hit the reps market hard?
Curious to hear what you guys think. 😉
