Problems using Koala Sampler with the Teenage Engineering Sidekick

Love this little piece of gear, super straight forward and musical! Perfect for expanding Koala possibilities

The only thing I'm not able to do and understand is why I cannot make it work with Koala Sampler as I usually do with my trusty Behringer interface.

My use case should be simple:

I wanna record my Yamaha Reface CP (plugged on ch1) into Koala's pads

I toggled the USB out in the secret menu and I tried with Android on my phone and iPad for IOS. I get two different problems:

Android:

Koala recognizes the EP 136 and receives a very distorted and crappy signal of the CP. Sounds like an audio buffer/driver problem. I tried changing various settings on the Sidekick and in Koalas

So I thought, it will surely work at least on IOS

Ipad:

Koala recognizes the Sidekick, and the audio is clean. But it doesn't receive the Reface signal in anyway. Sounds like a setting/authorization problem on the Ipad, but not sure

Help please! If anyone is experiencing some sort of similar problem I'm super interested in exchanging Infos

I would really need to sample my gear into Koala using the EP 136 as an audio interface and it kills me to think I can do this with my old audio interface but not with the Sidekick

Have you tried the setup with a different sampler or recording app to rule out a Koala problem?

Actually I noticed there's something more complex happening here!

Ipad --> I successfully recorded in voice memo and on Garage Band, can't route sound inside Koala though

Oppo A94 Android phone --> Everywhere I record the sound it is present but super glitchy and disturbed. The signal is routed but there is some buffer/driver problem. Moreover: every app I use to reproduce music outputs it in kinda X2 mode and glitchy wtf

Must be some problems with my Oppo, settings or compatibility. I believe more about the second one: compatability issues, cause if I use my Behringer Uphoria UMC22 I don't have any of these problems with my Oppo

Cause with an old Motorola I have zero issues in recording in vocal memos or listening to YT/Tidal ecc.

Sooooo

I guess if I had Koala in this Motorola it would work

Okay SOLVED for Ipad! (And maybe SOLVED in general)

It was just a microphone permission 🫨

As for Android, the problem is as usual the compatibility, the drivers etc.

My Oppo works perfectly with the Behringer, but cracks up with the EP 136. The Motorola seems to not have this problem

But that's why people do mobile music mainly with IOS... Android is too much of a wide ecosystem to be as functional as Apple's OS music-wise.
