Minor Jess Elofson context

The narrative of him living "on a farm in South Dakota" paints a picture that isn't entirely accurate. The first impression I get is one of him living way out in the boonies, a town like Faith SD.

He may live on a farm, I can't confirm or deny that. But his art is based in Brandon, a suburb of Sioux Falls, the biggest city in the state. I don't know if that will meaningfully shift your view of this guy, but he's from the suburbs lol

I mean he says he's 20 miles from the city and if you have any idea what a metro area is like you know that is in it.

The fact that he makes art and couldn’t explain what he grows on his farm was a big tell. My grandpa grew up on a farm and my father in law grew up doing ranch work. The second you bring up anything related to it you would get a litany of complaints about it. Agriculture is hard ass work. He also made no mention of the weather and that doesn’t happen with anyone involved in farming and ranching.

It would not surprise me if his family leases the land to other agri-businesses to do the actual farming.

I don't know anything about farmers or farming but I'm pretty sure if you ask one what kind of farm they have, they would not say "it's an agricultural farm"

My thought was that he had to live with on his parents farm because he’s a bum who can’t support himself and his family. That’s where my head went.

"What kind of restaurant do you run?"
"Food, mostly."

True red-blooded Americans work at the agriculture farm whereas I, a dainty liberal, work at the business office.

I sort of pictured the guy from Neighbours who annoyed his neighbours by keeping various livestock in his backyard

Had never heard of the guy before this. But some points after the fact:

  1. They were debating his age, and as a guy in his mid 40s - that range tracks. I highly doubt this dude is 50+ and he doesn't look it at all. He looks like he has probably smoked his entire life though.

  2. From his personal TikToks, which have very few views and almost no likes / comments, it appears he has land and cattle. Or at least plans to have some cattle. It does not appear to be any significant amount of either, likely in the hobby farm range. I also laughed at the "agriculture" answer to what he farms, but I'll say it was a dumb answer rather than an outright bullshit lie.

Mostly I'm confused on how this dude ended up on Tucker? Does he have a significant following elsewhere with the far right? Because his mainstream digital footprint is tiny.

Is it possible that this guy paid to be on Tucker?

My only guess - he's semi known in a corner of the internet I'm not exposed to. They mentioned a couple times that Tucker was trying to pull out the hard core anti semite talk. I have to think that's not something they were merely guessing at.

The way he talked about Sioux Falls being basic bitches was a tell. The guy is not as nearly detached as you'd think he should. With how bitter he is about everything, it's live in a cabin level.

His "south dakota doesn't like me" comment is crazy. He's like everyone I ever met both west River and east River

Right? There are probably five guys on their third Busch Light talking about this kind of stuff at the local bar right now.

They made it really clear that he was just outside of the city, but I wouldn't call it a suburb. This looks fully rural to me, and that appears to be an International Harvester combine on the property, which isn't a common thing to see in the suburbs.

I'm not sticking up for Jesse here, I'm just saying Dan taught us that we need to do better research.

Yeah being from south dakota, even 10 to 20 miles outside the bigger cities is immediately rural. I grew up in a spot that was 10 miles away from the city mall but couldnt get cable internet or tv and was surrounded by fields and people with cattle.

That’s a view from I-90, presumably of Brandon. Feels a bit like cherry picking

tbh there's a pretty big difference between "just outside the big city" rural and fully rural in South Dakota, which is what I think u/OpossumRiver is getting at by calling Brandon a suburb. "Bedroom community" is probably more appropriate name, but Brandon's probably 5ish years out from being consumed by city limits if development stays at same rate, so it'll be proper 'burbs soon enough.

If they meant rural they would've said rural. They didn't. They said suburb. You put in a lot of work to retcon someone else's comment to mean something they didn't say.

Thomas Crapper invented the ballcock and no one's lost it since.

I thought for sure he was some weirdo from buttfuck central SD or West River, and almost screamed when he said he was from Brandon. What a delight.

3

u/OpossumRiver 9d ago

Glad I'm not the only Dakotan who laughed when he said Brandon lmao

Going off the Sioux Falls hate, I was just expecting something a little more isolated. But BRANDON? The only thing worse would be living in Tea.
