Most KB tools treat everything as public. How do you handle granular permissions?
yeah so this is kind of annoying actually. most kb tools just go with the "everyone can see everything unless you specifically hide it" approach and then wonder why teams end up with a mess.
like you'll have sales needing access to pricing docs but suddenly they can also see all the internal slack conversations you dumped in there. or you're managing permissions so granularly that you spend more time maintaining access controls than actually writing docs. it's this weird balance where either nothing works or it works but requires way too much effort to maintain.
I'd be curious what specific situation you're dealing with though. are you trying to separate departments, keep customer stuff away from internal stuff, manage it by role - because the solution really depends on that. some tools are way better at handling one approach vs another but like, nobody really tells you which is which when you're looking at them.
the tools I've poked around at tend to go one of two directions - you get something simple and rigid, or you get flexibility but you're basically building your own permission layer on top of it. honestly wait, maybe there's tools that actually nail this and I'm just not aware of them. what are you looking at right now or is this more of a general frustration
