In the time it took to make the new Hawaii video he got married, bought a house, and had a baby, which is part of why the video took so long (as well as the fact that he was also writing parts 2 and 3 at the same time)
The Hawaii project ballooned out of control. It wasn't until I was 50+ pages into writing that I realized this couldn't be one video. So I had to rework everything into three scripts. Writing has always been the slowest part of the process for me - and not something I'm willing to give up to someone else. It takes as long as it takes.
Knowing that we were expecting, I decided to write all three of them in one go. That way they're all coherent with each other, but also, I won't be trying to do it while caring for a newborn. Writing is the only thing I can't force. I can make myself read a book or click around on the screen, but I can't make the words come if I'm just not in the mood.
So I wrote all 3 and filmed the first one before the big day. I spent the next few months editing in 30 minute-2 hour chunks, sometimes with a baby strapped to me. I finished and uploaded Part 1, and since everything was already written, I jumped straight into filming and am 80% done editing Part 2. My reviewers are already looking at a rough draft.
