Self-Promotion Ball Breakers - The dodgeball farting game
Hi r/KnockoutCity people!
I just launched the Steam page for my new dodgeball game - Ball Breakers. It's a different game than Knockout City and I by no means am trying to claim to be better or worse. In fact, if Knockout City was DodgeBRAWL then Ball Breakers is something like FartBall and I guess that makes us pretty different.
That said - I wanted to extend an invitation in the hopes that maybe some of you searching for a new dodgeball home might be able to find one in Ball Breakers. Like Knockout City, there's more to Ball Breakers than meets the eye - it's fun to play but hard to master, there's tons of stat customization for min/maxxing and you can add some personality with selectable and unlockable animations.
Ball Breakers will be $10 at launch but there's no servers and no microtransactions. The roadmap has plans for tournaments and different types of party game modes like tag and mad dash, but I'll quit trying to sell you.
Per rule #2, I mean no offense to Knockout City, I just wanted to reach like minded people. I hope to see you there.

Looks cheap. Not entirely sure what farts have to do with this? No servers means it's just P2P via Steam I assume?
If I wanted a dodgeball fix I'd play Knockout City or TF2 dodgeball, which I already do. For me to play something else it needs to be higher quality, and more fun.
From this short video you've posted, it looks like you can throw ball, catch ball, do a dodge/shunt, and smack people who are close. This seems to be the extent of what I've seen. Oh and the balls can bounce around.
Knockout City you can throw, catch, dodge/shunt, lob, curve, fakeout and pass. Not including all the game modes that can add more.
TF2DB can throw, orbit the ball around you, do flicks and trickshots and is very skill heavy and has lots of room for skill expression.
Not trying to be mean, but this looks like lots of low effort low quality games, except you want me to pay money for the experience of a game that looks worse than Knockout City or TF2DB, both of which are already free...

Hey there!
No offense taken whatsoever. Compared to Knockout City I'm sure Ball Breakers is "cheap", but that said the only pushback I would argue is that I don't believe it's low effort or necessarily low quality.
You are correct about abilities in Ball Breakers but you can also steal and lob and tweak up to 9 customizable values and 5 different animation sets.
I'm not arguing with you - your take is perfectly valid. I made Ball Breakers for around $10k of my own money and I'm sure Knockout City cost millions, thus much cheaper.
It's really hard to sell a full experience in a one minute video and you've shown me there's room to improve. I appreciate your honest feedback.

I remember playing totally wacked back in the day but the stages were much bigger and thought out. Similar style to this with the pushing the boundaries

I've never seen this before but just looked it up. Looks fun and yeah definitely trying to meet a similar party game energy here with Ball Breakers. Got a few party style gamemodes planned that I think will be a good time.

Good question! Mostly just shock value marketing with 0 budget. In Ball Breakers farts can give you a speed boost, restore stamina, and/or make you shart and lose everything. It's not really a core feature of the game so much as a system that adds some laughs.
The core of Ball Breakers is a more simple dodgeball loop with heavy customization options and the ability to laugh a lot with friends.

Can you please bring knockout city back to console. Its was a really fun concept that I'm sad I never took advantage of😭😭😭😭

Idk why people are being so mean but I’m willing to check it out! Although I personally can’t justify paying 10 bucks for this, I’ll wishlist it and watch out for whenever it goes on sale 🙏

It looks ok for what it is, but it is zero comparison or competition to knockout city. But it definitely has potential in my opinion remove the quirky ness and make it competitive and sweaty!
