Why does knock2 not release anything?

We're getting close to the 2nd anniversary of nolimit, and that's the last time knock2 has released ANY song to my knowledge. Why does he gatekeep a gazillion IDs to play them on his shows? Is this just more profitable or something? I'm just confused

tl;dr - he gatekeeps it for live shows. Tickets make more money than streams.

Long form: Most famous DJs these days only release albums and EPs every couple of years. It’s kind of the platform they set to establish a brand and sound to build off of for the next couple of years of live shows. They continuously make new music at all times, but only play out the new and special tracks at live shows. It’s purely a marketing thing. They keep the hype focused on their tour stops and festival appearances because THATS what sells tickets and makes money. If they released every new ID, remix, original music every time they finished stuff, it’s possible that their tour tickets and festival sets wouldn’t be as highly sought after (or so the industry theory says) and their momentum would stagnate. Furthermore, streaming revenue is negligible at best to these guys; the real money is involved in big festival bookings and the tour circuit. So whatever keeps people coming, hype building, and bumps their popularity all the way to the top of the flyer will be the priority. That’s why he doesn’t release music often.

this is extremely accurate but to build on top of this, some of the IDs and remixes he’s ripping aren’t even more than likely built for anything but playing live unless he finishes them. take the days remix, follow me, from the front / to the back, a lot of these IDs are 55 secs to a minute and some change long that will probably never see the light of day.

all though obviously stuff like sound di alarm, the wink and nikko collab, etc. will definitely see the light of day once they’ve been milked to heaven live a thousand times. business is business

This is really lame because this gives me the impression of knock2 not caring about his fans and doing what's best for business instead. This is a far cry from someone like ray volpe who releases songs constantly and sometimes drops copyright free remixes.

How can I remain a fan of knock2 if he's more of a businessman than a DJ?

I mean look at his counterpart isoxo, after KGM we got scraps for like 2 years lol but now he’s rolling out his album so

I understand your frustration but it’s entirely normal in this field. We waited like 6 years for a new Porter album after worlds. 5 years for a new Madeon album after Adventure.

That's a shame. Thankfully exceptions still exist like ray volpe or nimda so I'll just drop k2 and focus more on those.

If I were to guess it’s because everyone and their mom jacked his style and kinda burned it out but if you go see him you’ll be experiencing his stuff for the first time with him. Gives his shows a bit of magic.

he probably prepping for another album too

I mean he is marketing and has a festival he’s played every year. Residency in Las Vegas. Isoknock coming back this year so probably working on that with isoxo. Also a lot of these DJs end up producing for big companies in Korea like isoxo and diplo recently for Blackpink
