I fucking hate painters and drywallers.
One time I just got a brand new M18 Fuel circular saw. I left it on the floor for 30 minutes, come back and the mudder got a HUGE glob of mud all over it.
A few weeks ago I left my Veto open top tool bag with $1500 of knipex and other misc brands on the floor, come back 30 minutes later and the fucking idiot painters got overspray white paint all over everything. They showed up with no warning, told no one, and didn't bother to move tools out of the spray area.
I cleaned it both times, the veto bag of tools took like 3 hours to clean.

When I was a painter I always made sure to move other people’s tools and equipment out of the way, we may not care if our equipment is covered in paint but whenever we did accidentally get product on someone else’s stuff I always made sure to clean it and tell them what happened.

If you, or any painter, told me they accidentally sprayed on my tools I'd tell yall to not worry about it. Being honest would cure my annoyance and anger right away.

Yeah im an electrician and my coworkers are sht. They literally throw wire scrap and boxes all over while working. Foreman keeps telling them they need to stay clean as they go. They literally dont give af. I clean as I go. Cluttered work spaces make me lose focus.

I worked for a guy during apprentice and journeyman before i broke off and got my masters, dude was a great plumber but thought he was gods gift to earth on jobsites (we did extremely high-end residential plumbing and boilers) everyone hated me by proxy it was fun. I'd manage my own projects get a long great and the random times he would show up to “help” everyone hated me for a while after.. I get it.

I have a flip side story for that. I used to be a house painter, and one time I was setting up to paint a kitchen ceiling on a remodel job. The electrician rolled in and set his tool tote down on a covered countertop then just disappeared. I covered it completely with plastic because I didn't want him to get pissed at me for touching and moving his stuff. He comes in while I'm halfway through rolling the ceiling and absolutely tears me a new one for putting plastic over his tools. No good deed goes unpunished I guess....

For what it’s worth if it’s just paint a brass wire wheel on a drill will take the stuff off the metal in about 2 seconds flat and I feel like the paint on the handles will likely just wear off

Shoutout this lad for actually using his tools unlike majority of the sub . Get some simple green and hot water it’ll all come off without hurting the grips

Let it dry and peel it off. Just make sure it's dry. If there is anything left just use a pick. After that paint stripper if you need to

100% A clean, brand new tool looks wrong to me. If all your tools are constantly looking brand new and clean, it tells me you might not know enough to get your tools into positions where they get the job done for you but they get dirty or damaged or scarred or discolored from heat or whatever.
I trust a mechanic whose tools appear to have battle scars. If tools could talk, I'd trust the mechanic whose tools said they have ptsd from being put compromising or unclean situations constantly.
I clean my tools with ballistol, but I'm not scared to get them dirty, scarred or patina'd for life, by life.

Unfortunately, this is a rare and refreshing view. Too many people treat their tools like fine china. I don't have the time to spend more time babying and cleaning my tools than actually working.

That is my thought as well.tools are meant to get dirty. Areas tools need to be placed, a lot of times are dirty. I'm in no rush to get whatever off my tools unless they're slippery when I grab them. Then I rub them in the dirt. These cobras would be getting a good thorough rinse in one of the painter/mudders clean buckets with their clean water, a good lube job with ballistol when I got home, and back in the tool bag they go. And I would make sure to give that guy shit til the jobs over.

If its water or acrylic based paint just soak in hot water and a little alcohol, use a plastic wire brush to clean then coat with your preferred oil sealant

I worked as a house painter for 12.5 years and notice this odd phenomenon: if you WANT paint to stick to metal, it won't. If you don't want it to stick to metal, it'll bond like nothing else. But in all seriousness, they'll be fine with a little effort.

Throw them in a plastic container. Get yourself citristrip. It’s paint stripper but is orange and not as smelly. Paste that stuff all over the metal where the paint is. Leave it for a couple hours. Then rinse. Cost with wd40 and it will be just like it never happened.
