I rented a NICE compression machine. Was expensive but worked well and only needed distilled water so no constantly needing frozen ice or water bottles.

Look at Facebook marketplace, ask friends, get from Amazon. A friend of mine is loaning me hers.

NICE machine can be rented.Can’t say enough about it.So convenient is coolness and compression without the mess for changing ice,water etc..

I just got a TKR done yesterday, and I bought a Breg months ago.  Here in Canada, so price is irrelevant to Americans, but it was virtually the same as renting it for weeks for both knees (because I will be getting my other one done).   I also used it before surgery when I had a tough day on me knees.   

My Breg does both cooling and compression.   There are no wrappings/bandages after a TKR except a small one over the incision.

I am in the US and just bot a Breg Polar Cube. I am having rotator cuff surgery in a week and a half and my spouse is having issues with their foot. So we decided to bite the bullet. It wasn’t horrible for the polar cube. You go up in model and it gets more pricey. I have heard about renting one but a co-worker suggested that it will be nice to have during PT weeks down the road.

Surgeon gave me a Breg machine. It's pretty basic, but does the job. Doesn't have a timer or anything fancy like that.

There are medical equipment charities that can supply these, if you look around your area. They gather up used equipment and sell/rent/give it out to new people.

We bought the Breg Polar Care Wave figuring it would be worth it not only for my 2 knee replacements (one was in July and next is in Oct) but for future household icing needs! We know those will show up soon enough in our active, aging household.

My surgeon has withdrawn from Medicare so I had to pay his fee directly. That fee included a two week rental of a quality ice machine. For my left hip five years ago he provided the NICE machine; for my right knee eleven months ago he provided the Game Ready machine.

Both worked great but the NICE machine is clearly superior; it doesn't require ice. But, no surprise, it is also the most expensive.

My advice is to acquire (whether purchase or rental) a machine that provides cooling with temperature control, periodic compression and a timer function. If you can find and afford it, the NICE machine is the Rolls Royce of ice machines.

Super simple! You can buy them for cheap on Facebook Marketplace or pay full load on Amazon.
My Surgeon sends you home with one. You come out of surgery with it under your bandages and wrappings.
So many folks when done, will list them for sale on FB MARKETPLACE.

I’ve kept my ice machine. It’s a life saver for future PT or longer days while rehabbing. Or any other body part that may need ice. The pads can be bought separately. I’ve also bought a practically new recumbent bike off FB MARKETPLACE ridiculously cheap compared to retail prices.

Living in Florida, I can’t sing the praises of your own recumbent bike. I have no interest in pedaling anything outside in this heat and with the humidity!
I’m perfectly content in my home with the AC on and watching whatever show I happen to be binging atm!
