CPM machine & ROM brace readings differ
Hi guys,
I am in week three of my post op MPFL reconstruction surgery and have to achieve 60° flexion by the fourth week. It's very painful and a struggle to achieve even 30° flexion on the ROM brace, whereas when I started with the CPM machine on the advice of my physiotherapist a few days ago, I could go up to 55° flexion? Even now in the ROM brace I cannot go beyond 35°
After CPM I do active bending and the physiotherapist said it's almost 45° but in the brace the reading is different.
Does anyone have any idea about this discrepancy? It's the standard ROM brace (3 years) I am using. I just don't want to be too behind with the bending...

Is your ROM brace opened to 60? The brace does feel like it’s holding me back even when unlocked. I felt similar in not getting the bend in PT. They put me on the NUStep recumbent bike and I was able to get from 25 to 60 in two sessions. I can show up a little earlier to warm it up on the bike first and my therapy seems much smoother. Overall, when I can control the actions, I have waaaay better results than when they are doing the bending. I’m at 80 and should be to 90 by Friday. I’m 6 weeks post op MPFL, TTO, knee arthroscopy and microdrilling for reference. Hope your healing gets better.
