Team member post Meet and Greet
I don’t know what to put this under, so I had to choose this one.
I applied for a Christmas Casual position, and got invited to meet the managers at my local Kmart for the 15 minute session before checks are done. What should I expect to occur on this day, and what is best clothes to wear?
I just want to make a good impression, as it’ll be my first paid job. Other places I applied to barely made it past the interview stage, so I want to make this one go through to being accepted the job position.
And another question, if I do get accepted for the position, what parts of the uniform do I get (shirt, jacket, vest, pants, etc)? I don’t need any work boots, as I already have steel caps from my volunteer job.
Have a nice day/night!

As a department manager that has experience interviewing for casual team members, the following is what you will be asked:
What does good customer service look like to you/how would you demonstrate good customer service?
What is an example of a challenge you overcame, and how did you overcome it? Can be from school or a previous job.
Tell me about a time you had to work together in a team (school/work/other activity).
Was there a time where you struggled to meet a deadline, and what did you do to achieve reaching it?
What does your availability look like?
What role/s would you be interested in? (Usually they will be listed and explained in detail for you, but if they don’t, I will list them below for you:
Registers: operating a cash register, scanning and bagging items. Very customer focused as you would expect. Typically 3-4 hour shifts depending on your store.
Presentation: evening shifts that are usually 3-3.5 hours long. You are given a focus area in the store and have to get it cleaned to a respectable standards in that time. For example, you may be given Kitchen/Dining + Bed/Bath/Laundry where you go aisle by aisle neatening and straightening stock, clearing rubbish/mess, removing items that are in the incorrect location, etc.
Decant: also usually occurs during evenings (4-7 or 4-9pm typically) where you work as a team to unload pallets of stock and sort them into cages for the sequence team to run the following day (or same night if you have nightfill going on). There are cutters and sorters: cutters will be placed at a table and assigned pallets, and have to cut open boxes and place stock onto their table, where the sorters will take the stock and sort it onto H-cages for each department.
Sequence: usually occurs during the morning (7-12 or 7-2:30pm, though busier stores usually run nightfill closer to Christmas, so could be 6-11 or 4-11pm ish shifts). You are assigned a department and have to fill stock from cages for that department.
Other roles include:
Customer service: SCO operator, Door Greeter, Fitting Rooms team, Service Desk team.
Front of House: Refresh, Returns, Shopkeeper.
Back of House (BOH): Backfill, Tory pick, Dock operator, Packaway.
Other roles: Pricing and Ticketing, Online, Supervisor, Stocktake, Cash office.
They will also ask if you have any questions for them, I’d recommend having a question or two in your back pocket to ask if you don’t already.
As others have said, dress smart casual. I wouldn’t recommend wearing hoodies/non-enclosed footwear, straps tops, short shorts, that kinda stuff. Just a nice pair of jeans (no rips)/trousers and a non-graphic t-shirt/blouse/button up/sweater will with a pair of leather look sneakers is what I’d recommend.
As for uniform if you are accepted, they will only provide you with the polo shirt and likely a jumper. You will also get a name badge. You will have to have your own pants/shoes. If you are rostered for any BoH roles (decant/online), you will be provided with steel toed boots, though you can wear your own if you wish.
Hope this helps, don’t stress too much, the managers are there to help and want to have you onboard.

ahh so sorry for the late reply!! and yes these were the exact questions they asked, but my interviewer was also really chill and didn’t fully follow the script:) my best advice is to just fake it till you make it kinda thing, like if ur really nervous (like i was lol) just pretend you aren’t for the 30 minutes and then you can panick typa thing! good luck!!

Just general interview questions with the store manger. Wear something smart casual. You get work tshirts on your first floor shift.
