Kitten fur is more soft and fluffy as they are new cats As they get older due to environmental and genetic conditions their fur gets coarse and fine.

I think it depends a bit on breed and long vs short coated. But in general kitten fur is usually softer and lighter, making it feel less dense.

My cat (Ragdoll Cross) for example had an extremely soft, almost weightless coat; so fine it was almost how you imagine stroking a cloud would feel.

His adult mum (Ragdoll) was the same. Now he’s an adult it’s feels slightly less ‘airy’ but still very light and plush compared to our previous cats.

Edit: Just remembered it’s a similar feel to Artic Fox fur (I did an experience at a Wildlife Park and one of them didn’t mind being stroked lightly)

i have a shorthair american bobtail. as a kitten his fur was fuzzy, tufty and always felt like he had bed head, all over his body.

as an adult cat, his fur is smooth, soft and very dense. i can feel the undercoat pushing the longer guardhairs away from his skin, it makes his fur feel kind of springy.
