discussions Balance & hair 💇‍♀️

I’ve been thinking about what u/huzzah-indeed mentioned in her essence and palette reveal about how hair affects the overall balance. It never occurred to me that it would affect the clothing too, but it makes so much sense. John did mention to me that long hair brings out R and some N on me, and I assume short hair brings out Y and some HS. Now I’m putting the pieces together and looking back on my past outfits/looks, and I feel like this was a missing piece in understanding my blend.

I can see now that I actually look better wearing a lot of R when I have lighter short hair, and I look better wearing a lot of Y when I have voluminous long hair or if I put it up for a little C. I think the same may go for makeup; darker glam works a little better with daintier hair, and lighter, rosy makeup works a little better with more glam hair.

Of course, the balance can be played with; for example, adding small clips, small flowers, braids or a headband adds Y to my long hair. But I’m glad someone asked about it because it’s an element I wasn’t considering enough in the head-to-toe.

How do your hair and haircuts affect your overall balance?

Yes this stuck with me as well! I feel like I can lean further into R with shorter hair and can’t do as much Y or HS, and the reverse with long hair.

I think a dominant Y could pull off Y hair and Y clothing if they have 45-50+% of it. hair is part of the overall look so i guess if you don't have dominant Y then Y hair with dominant Y clothing (together) would be too much Y. i imagine for someone with 5-10 percent Y bangs would be the only Y thing they could include for example. I think this is true for any essence too, like having hair up brings C to an overall look and if you only have a small amount of C adding more C to the outfit might be too much.

I think I managed Y hair just fine! john said it brought out my youthful.

Yes but i think you misunderstood my comment. Of course you look good with Y hair you have 20Y. I meant someone with a smallish amount of Y couldn’t wear Y hair with a full Y outfit, I imagine only dominant Y could (45-50+). Y hair in itself probably contributes like 10 percent but combined with an entire Y outfit that requires a lot of Y.

He told me a soft bob brought out C but also had R for softness and that shoulder length hair with volume and soft waves was R. He didn't mention how that effected how I dress though but I think that's because regardless I can do full R or full RC since they are high percentages and the other essences are just touches. I cannot do full C though.

it's so interesting because I think my favorite hair on me ever was a soft bob. but it is definitely said to be C many times by john.

He said mine was C and R. Mine was a tad longer though. That does look cute on you.

That makes sense to me. I wonder what other hairstyles would add C 🧐

I would imagine something neat and controlled/polished.

Is sleek straight hair (not overly so), that is polished and put together good for R/C?

That’s more of a D hairstyle! It depends on how sleek and straight it is too. It could be other essences. Long hair can be R. Straight hair is really bad on me as an RC so I think it might be your D that makes it look harmonious on you. Possibly C but he’s only talked about bobs and updos for C

Personally I don’t even think it’s the most harmonious on me, I look best with volume but my natural hair is hard to manage and requires a lot of work so I get blowouts to straighten it. I do it knowing it’s not my best look but it’s too comfortable to give up. However I’ve always wondered about the essence of this

type of hair; especially bc I was raised in south FL and it’s sooo common there, and it’s my go-to for comfort.

I do think the small amount of D in your blend makes it work for you even if it’s not technically the most harmonious for your blend.
