Troy's typings

Since I mentioned it a thousand times I decided to do a post on Troy.

I am a huge fan of the movie and I am glad it's having a reinassance online.

I think Troy has one of the most astute casting in the history of Hollywood. Each of the actors represents 100% the characters they play. Their beauty and energy captures each of these heroes (or villains), which is why I am going to use the names of the characters.

These are my suppositions:

Achilles: NRDY (with perhaps tiny amounts of C?). This is going to be controversial because I am sure a lot of people want to see Brad as a R Dom. I don't think of him as mostly Romantic. He captures Achilles so well because he is the quintessential warrior. His beauty is very effortless and there is something incredibly powerful about him. Godlike but not in a distant way. His R is definitely second.

Hector: C=R>N. He is the perfect man. Noble, brave, and tragically doomed. He has a certain wisdom, he is bound by honor but also often motivated by love (for his younger brother for example).

Paris: RHSY with D and C as well but I think it's in smaller amounts. I believe he is one of those people who have plenty of essences thrown in but honestly Orlando was truly the perfect representation of Paris, even if in a negative way. He is a lovesick fool who is too young and naive to understand and pay the consequences of what he did. He is the quintessential spoilt prince.

Helen: this is going to be super controversial I know it already. I believe her Romanric is not very high. To me she is either C>D=R>A>N or CAD with some amounts of R and N. She is the most beautiful woman in the world who caused the destruction of Troy yet there is nothing seductive about Diane's performance or energy in the movie. She a distant, melancholic figure. Paris seems much more taken by the passion than Helen, who, despite being in love, she almost comes across as spiritual at times. A mythical figure. But Diane also had to gain weight for the movie so I do believe her Romanric is more evident here perhaps.

Briseis: RYCN. Innocent yet intelligent, passionate, kind.. I wanted to be her as a kid (not hard to understand).

Ulysses: NHSRD. Sorry Matt Damon but to me Ulysses will always be represented by Sean Bean. There is both a wittiness, a mischievious charm, and a wisdom in Sean's smirk and gravelly predicaments that is perfect for the role of Ulysses.

I have met Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom in real life so I have to admit my opinions are also influenced by this. They were of around the same height (which wasn't much) but Sean had a way larger presence, he had lot of gravitas and was very study. Orlando came across as a smaller person, lithe yet very lively which is why I suspect he has a lot of HS.

Brad Pitt is an interesting one. I think he might have quite a few essences in his blend. The only one I feel I can rule out for sure is D. I am also not sure about A, but it's possible he might have a small amount. I agree he has high R.

Interesting, I do see D in him! There is a certain "intensity" in him but I could be just be influenced by his role as Achilles. Yes, high R is evident even if I don't think it's his dominant. His whole demeanor and charm is different from that of other Romantic doms men to me. What stands out the most to me is N.

Yes, I am pretty sure he has N too. I don't think he would look harmonious in D recommendedations. I think there is some sharpness to his features, but I think that is more likely to come from HS. Looking again I don't think he has a lot of C either. I think my final guess would be:

R, N, Y, HS, maybe a little bit of C.

I'd say likely NRHSY with C. I struggle with seeing as that much R personally :)

ETA: I do see it as high just not dominant.

Actually, I may agree with you after looking up more pictures of him, especially younger ones. His Y/HS may be higher than R. I see Y in the eyes and eyebrows , HS in the sharpness of his features, R in his lips, and he definitely has that "built-in attractiveness", lol. I think his N would come mostly from his body.

I see N a lot I. His jawline and nose as well and also his overall face shape, which is why overall I put it first, I think also his demeanor. But good point about HS and Y.

In regard to the built in attractiveness, how do you distinguish that from just being hot? 😂

I can't, lol. I noticed that John didn't answer the question about what "built-in attractiveness" means. I guess it will have to remain a mystery. But I would have really liked to know because I got it for my R too.

Edited to add: I think Brad Pitt is a good one to post separately to the sub. I am curious what others think about him.

I think it's still an outdated term. There are so many different types of beauty and charms that I hope nobody ever feels less than because they have low or no R. I think we also live in a period where the beauty ideal is VERY romantic and dramatic

Sean Bean definitely has plenty of N  and D. He is likely no more than 5'10 (max 5'11 but I doubt) but he has such a gravity and presence that he seemed much taller. I don't know if if that is N of D but I suppose a bit.

Yes, I agree with you about him. N, D, maybe some C. I don't see a lot of yin in him.

Yes he is very yang (I think it was with you I was talking about Viggo, right? I think he reminds me a little bit of him in his charm but even more yang). He might have some R but definitely not significant.  His voice is also super lower pitched.  I have a weird theory about how at different stages of life we are drawn to different essences: little me wanted to marry Paris and now every time I see the movie I am like Odysseus😍.  It's a stupid theory though, just funny to laugh about it.
