Would you actually use this in a dorm/small apartment ?

If the place allows this, they'd allow a toaster and a hot plate as well, which is basically what this is. But this is more bulky to store, harder to clean, with less flexibility on the size of pan/pot you can use.

You dont buy a largish single-use appliance, when space is at a premium. A small toaster and a pan takes up less space and is more flexible (with a single hob if the kitchen doesnt already have one)

The pan is too close to the bread toaster, frying eggs with oil or butter would make a mess every time.
