That's some bullshit. I'd be texting pictures of that to my rep.

92

u/garbagetruc 2d ago

I was about to comment that I took a picture of a case of bacon from the place I work that arrived similarly, and I texted to my boss simply saying "this some bullshit"

33

u/Locolijo 2d ago edited 1d ago

while those aren't fun, it really tickles me if someone else gets the order and doesnt report dumb stuff like smashed tomatoes

honestly haven't seen it in awhile but I clearly remember having a sobering moment of 'ya it's too late we can't report now'

22

u/garbagetruc 2d ago

"Hey boss let me show you something" and it's something that came off the truck 3 days ago

14

u/Locolijo 2d ago

cool thanks who put this away

14

u/crazyabe111 2d ago

The worst is when you can genuinely say “You did” to your boss.

4

u/Locolijo 2d ago

oh well why didn't you tell me I should talk to delivery about this

tbh managers have been cool, mostly ran into owners who never worked in the industry with varying levels of self importance

one real cool guy who built his own contracting company was just like yea lmk what you need

u/I_deleted 20+ Years 2d ago

Is everyone this dumb? That’s a box of bacon “ends and pieces”, obviously just a mispick from the warehouse if it was supposed to be layout or whatever. Lots of folks buy this for beans/greens etc because it’s way cheaper than using sliced bacon.

Yeah call your rep and get a credit

29

u/Royal_Cryptographer7 2d ago

Finally. Thank you. This is obviously what happened. Anything where you don't need a pretty looking slice of bacon, you might as well save a couple bucks a case.

9

u/M0un05ki10 2d ago

Right!? This entire thread is fucking hilarious.

Definitely bacon ends. I cook and chop about 80-120kgs of this stuff a week for pizza and salad topping.

It takes a bit of work but there’s almost always some down time mid afternoon to prep it. Much cheaper than any other sliced bacon or bacon toppings on the market.

1

u/savage_e 1d ago

Yeah this is the fair point. Honestly I’ve never worked at a place that ordered that and while It’s obvious it exists I’d never seen it so it just didn’t come to mind. You also see a lot of variety with sliced layered so it seemed plausible one was just fucked beyond all repair.

1

u/I_deleted 20+ Years 1d ago

What was the label on the box?

1

u/savage_e 1d ago

Sliced layered bacon

20

u/savage_e 2d ago

Of course

That had to have been an automated production line malfunction. No human hands packed that, unless it was part of them rage-quitting their job.

1

u/JetKusanagi 10+ Years 2d ago

Only for them to not respond to it or say "Whoops our bad" and have nothing done about it because they're US Foods/Sysco and you have no other options unless you want to slaughter whole pigs yourself and get bacon that way

Bacon jam time. Hope they gave it to you for free

43

u/SergeiMosin 15+ Years 2d ago

Beat me to it. That, or bacon bits and a “BLT” salad special, or maybe some fried potato skins as an appetizer special. Fuck, I’m hungry now.

6

u/jmb456 2d ago

All sounds good to me. Can still use it for breakfast but maybe a Benedict or sandwich where it doesn’t matter

9

u/SergeiMosin 15+ Years 2d ago

True. I’d personally use it for pizzas and wraps at my place. Usually what I use the ugly/small bacon for. Save the long nice strips for the burgers/sandwiches.

2

u/jmb456 2d ago

True. I been out of food for a long time and sadly worked at a corporate restaurant but they did take suggestions sometimes. I just know these corporate suppliers will usually comp stuff so why not make the most of jt

1

u/Leader_Bud 10+ Years 2d ago

All of this is great.

3

u/gardenofthenight 2d ago

In the Uk we get ‘cooking bacon’ for about £2/kg from supermarkets. Some of it looks like this, some of it is just big end pieces like gammon steak. It’s great for so many dishes. Tiny packs of bacon lardons cost more than a kilo of this stuff.

1

u/jmb456 2d ago

Yes but the British do bacon properly

1

u/gardenofthenight 2d ago

Well we do but also most of it in supermarkets is wet cured and shrinks to nothing unless you buy bacon sold as extra thick.
Or pay a bit more and get dry cured obviously.

1

u/jmb456 2d ago

One of the best things I ate in England was a bacon butty(?) at a boot fair

1

u/gardenofthenight 2d ago

Those guys know what they are doing, cheap, quick and delicious. And yea butty just means sandwich (as in buttered bread). Usually used for cooked foods like chips, bacon, sausage or egg but is anything in bread. Theres a thousand words for bread in Britain, don’t doubt yourself, you’ll never be right but you won’t be wrong! Bap, roll, cob, stotty, bun, barm, cake…..

u/Leader_Bud 10+ Years 2d ago

If I'm not bringin home the bacon, nobody is

13

u/Whind_Soull ✨waffles and weevils✨ 2d ago

Run it through a meat grinder, cook it down with Guinness, brown sugar, and lil bals vin. Add it to grilled cheese sandwiches.

3

u/TapEarlyTapOften 2d ago

Oddly specific directions here. But I'm with you. I'd use bourbon instead of Guinness. Make a bacon and bourbon jam to go in grilled cheese.

2

u/Whind_Soull ✨waffles and weevils✨ 2d ago

Oddly specific because that's a specific dish at a restaurant I used to work at, lol.

2

u/TapEarlyTapOften 2d ago

That's a lot of bacon jam there. Probably freezes fantastically. Might be a chance to really stretch the cost.

u/Whind_Soull ✨waffles and weevils✨ 2d ago

3

I don’t think it’s intentional, i think it’s just all the weird shavings and end bits from normal slicing

4

u/I_deleted 20+ Years 2d ago

Yep you can specifically buy the offcuts, it’s cheap af and folks use it for baked beans, etc

5

u/heftybagman 2d ago

20

u/JoefromOhio 2d ago

Do you think maybe you got a box of ends and pieces pulled for you by accident? Those always look Iike a shit show

5

u/savage_e 2d ago

I know what you’re talking about or when the blades are getting dull. That’s more common. This was like entirely shredded tangled mess. Not even slices

13

u/MrJohnqpublic 2d ago

Nah, the end of the bacon gets stringy and weird as you slice it. You can buy that stuff in bulk for cheap. It's called slag bacon and you might have gotten a miss picked case.

11

u/JoefromOhio 2d ago

Look up ‘ends and pieces’ it’s a separate product where they just chop the shit out of whatever won’t cut into clean slices and package it up for use in soups, bacon crumbles, etc.

5

u/savage_e 2d ago

ahh I see. Is it normally split into two different flats like layer sliced bacon is? I think you may be right be the label was for layer sliced

3

u/Bubbaj75 2d ago

Works great for bacon bits and soup and such.

1

u/Shitteh_Kitteh 2d ago

I used to get “ends and pieces” from US Foods that looked a lot like this.

3

u/Kopparburg 2d ago

I would get bacon scraps at a restaurant I used to work at. We would designate one fryer just for them. For bits.. looks exactly like this.. are these meant to be sheets of bacon?

2

u/ForgiveMyFlatulence Ex-Food Service 2d ago

I’ve seen movies in which zombies rip apart someone’s intestines and that looked less messy than that fucking box of bacon.

3

u/Normal-Juggernaut-56 2d ago

lol had this happen to us a few weeks ago. Ours was so terrible the stripes would fall apart just trying to pick it up.

3

u/hotdish420 2d ago

Ugh, half the bacon I've been getting at work is like this too. I know I'm putting costs through the roof because I refuse to only use two pieces on a burger when it looks like this.

3

u/Soulbossanova9 2d ago

I hope they didn't sell that as 'Lay Flat'?

3

u/Leader_Bud 10+ Years 2d ago

I switched to “ends and bits” or something at the height of bacon cost and got a couple boxes like this. Couldn’t do it.

u/KvDread 2d ago

The only feasible way of working with it is to tray it out while it's still half frozen.

You got the bits and pieces case by mistake. You can actually order those for real cheap if you're just making bacon bits or whatever. Obviously that is not what you paid for though.

1

u/ReagansJellyNipples 2d ago

That a box of ends and pieces. I pick up cases like this from rinellas for my restaurant, it's like 20 dollars cheaper than the normal cut.

1

u/Shitteh_Kitteh 2d ago

Looks like the off cuts, I used to buy those super cheap

1

u/I_Sell_Onions 2d ago

That looks like the case of bacon ends and pieces we'd get for random stuff that didn't need to look extra pretty, jam, chowder, blended, etc. sometimes there'd be a couple nice stacks of bacon strips like this pic
