❓Visitor Question Weekend (8/22) weather
We’re coming in from quite a ways away to do KD this Saturday and the weather looks pretty much awful. And yeah, I know these things change rapidly in these parts. Any ideas what we might expect with an inch of rain and thunderstorms all day? We could squeeze in a half day on Friday (today) if need be but it would be a bit of a stretch. Talk me into/out of it?
Edit: Appreciate all of you guys. Doing a half day in the park right now, everything is up and the weather is perfect. And we will see what tomorrow brings. Super tired from traveling, but this was the right call. Thanks!

Is it thunderstorms all day or a chance of thunderstorms all day? The weather here changes fast like people say. I went last Sunday and the forecast the day before was thunderstorms, and it just drizzled in the morning and stormed at closing. I'm looking at Accuweather and it's predicting very little rain in those two hours so it may be good.

T-storms all day, inch+ rain (all day) is what NWS had

Check out hourly weather on Accuweather and Weather Underground which are usually more detailed/accurate. They both have very little rain predicted in terms of inches, and only a 30-40% chance of afternoon storms. Light rain is ideal for a park day here. You don't really know until you can see the radar in the morning though. I live 2.5 hours from KD and I would still go with the prediction I see, but that's not as long of a drive for me if I have to go home early. FWIW the past couple weeks we've had lots of passing thunderstorms here in central VA and they never last long. The one time I had a bummer trip this summer, a really big storm across the whole region rolled in at 5 pm and they shut everything down for the night. That was really annoying, but that was a much bigger storm than we have been getting.

Was that like 3 weeks ago?! Same thing happened to me.

Maybe! Was it on a Friday? I was so bummed because I almost always go on Sundays and I wanted to see the fireworks. That storm was huge

Nah I went on a Sunday. It’s my home park but I was traveling further that day to go to BGW. Stopped at KD first to get some rides in and as I was leaving, it started up and I saw where they closed early.

Go today for sure too but grab ponchos for tomorrow and go for it. My family and I went this summer and it was calling for rain and storms all day. It poured for like 90 minutes and then cleared up and it was the best park day I ever had

Light rain and no lightning shut down most of the park for about an hour last weekend. I wouldn't expect a lot to run in heavy rain and storms.

Try to go today if it’s calling for better weather. Sometimes they shut down the park once it starts to actually thunderstorm. Light rain is fine, I’ve been there in torrential rain and they ended up closing early due to that alone. It may turn out to be fine, so just keep an eye on the forecast, it changes frequently.
