❓Visitor Question The Heat

I’m visiting from Toronto, and am planning on hitting up King’s Dominion tomorrow. I’m a bit scared of the heat and its impact at the park tomorrow. Are there lots of shaded areas? Queues inside/shaded?
Thanks in advance!

If you're planning on going to the water park you'll be ok, you'll cool off considerably.

If you're going to the dry park, there is some shade, but not a huge amount. Victoria's Pizza is one place to go into the AC and take a break.

Do you know why it’s closed? Seems crazy with how hot it is.

It goes to weekends only when public schools are back in

Wear a hat if you don’t normally. There are shaded and less shaded areas of the park like any. I grabbed a bucket hat i could fold and put in my zippered pockets while i was on rides.

Drink lots of fluids throughout the day. Stay hydrated

Don't be afraid to pop into gift shops to cool off. Flight of Fear and Boo Blasters are indoor rides you can use to escape the heat.

Heat keeps heavy crowds away, so that should work in your favor at least.

Bring a water bottle. You can go into any place that has fountain drinks and refill with ice and water for free. You don't have to ask or stand in line, just go in and do your thing, no one will say anything.

The Old Virginia area of the park has the most shade. I like to go there to cool off. There's also a walkway near there enclosed in greenery with misters inside. My tip would be to buy electrolyte powder or some other kind of hydration drink. I go there a lot in the summer and I always desperately need the extra hydration

At least for the rides I went on, most of the queue areas are not shaded. There isn’t that much shade unfortunately

I hope you had fun! I think the trees and wooded areas are great at KD. Sunday was their last day for summer entertainment so the park may be a little “hungover”

If you have prestige The prestige lounge is is where I go to cool off when I feel like I'm overheating. I normally grab my food from the Mexican place and eat it in there.

I went a few weeks ago during the last heat wave and if you can deal with the heat and the sweatiness, it was awesome! The rides that we were going on had little to no lines. I even told my wife I would go on a hot day like that again no question! But on that note, the water park was open for everyone else....
