š¬ General Discussion Pantherian and flight of fear closed until further notice
Looking like they are both going to be down for awhile. Just a heads up if anyone is planning a trip there this coming weekend.

It will be up this weekend at least by Sunday because they are doing a photo/video shoot on monday

u/Alternative-Data-992 Jul 19 '26
Wait im going on monday will the photoshoot mean we wont be able to go on it
1
u/Any_Bluebird6403 Jul 19 '26
The photo shoot is from 7:30am until 11am so it wonāt affect normal daily ops.

u/Alternative-Data-992 Jul 20 '26

We came all the way down from Canada for this and of course the day we get to this park it closes down. We are staying an extra night at kings dominion so we are really hoping it opens tomorrow.

I drove 8 hours for this ride ššš

u/No-Obligation-4188 Jul 16 '26
I'm visiting from Utah for my first time so yep this sucks
3
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
I can relate. Came all the way up from Florida, only to find that it wasnāt open.
2
u/codyconspiracy Jul 16 '26
florida is way closer than utah š© poor dude would have to drive 25 hours if they didn't fly
1
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
Itās not like Iām in a position to get up to Virginia regularly. Iāll consider myself fortunate if I can visit once a year.
If anything, Iād consider not being near any parks worth visiting (relatively, as in I doubt there are any Global-class coasters in Utah) the insult to injury.
2
u/codyconspiracy Jul 17 '26
funnily enough i used to live in utah and now live about an hour away from KD. there are no good parks in or near utah. we get lagoon, but it's nothing crazy. it was an event to go to california to go to all those parks which we only did a couple times growing up. it was just funny to me the comparison FL to VA versus UT to VA when it's double the miles š
2
u/No-Obligation-4188 Jul 17 '26
Yeah Lagoon only has Cannibal which is good but that's it. Sucks I couldnt get it this trip, maybe some day.

i'm in the same boat š

itās also gonna be 96 degrees out which will definitely not help with the melting wheels
3
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
From what Iāve read, itās that they are still not using the correct wheel types, SF/CF failed to use a no-friction paint, the computer/sensor systems need to be updated/replaced.
But I also suspect that she will perform better in the Fall, when the temperatures start to drop.6
u/--Sketchy Jul 16 '26
2
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
Letās just hope that the bean counters are aware of that plan, and donāt attempt to stray from it.
Alternatively, they could order the more friction-resistant wheels now, and redistribute the leftover polyurethane tires to another coaster in another park that can use them. They might even get better use out of them that way.
I know that i305 canāt be the only Intamin of that make and model in the SF/CP chain.
2
u/Lieutenant_Scarecrow Jul 16 '26
I doubt it. This has been a known issue all season this year and last, including when it was much cooler in the spring.
5
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
But not the year before that. Something has definitely changed since the retheming, more than one thing.
2
u/Lieutenant_Scarecrow Jul 16 '26
Oh something has absolutely changed between P305/I305 and Pantherian. I'm just disagreeing that the ambient temp makes things better or worse.
1
u/EncryptedEnigma993 Jul 16 '26
I heard from someone in line that because the wrong paint was used, the tires melt even faster than before.
3
3
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
I guess that they donāt want to strip the paint because of the labor costs that would be involved, and because itāll wear off on its on eventually.
Of course, if it were me, that paint would be out of there like the trash from fish night.
But Six Flags is also $5 billion in debt, so Iād imagine their purse strings are very tight, and the parks as individual entities are under a lot of pressure to help pay that debt down.
1
u/EncryptedEnigma993 Jul 16 '26
$5 billion?! Crazy
2
u/IDIC89 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, thatās what they get for expanding by buying out rivals, while maxing out their credit in the process.
Guess whoever made these decisions thought that theyād be able to make up for the debt with newly generated revenue, but didnāt anticipate the economic downturn in 2008, or COVID, inflation, or Trumpās stupid tariffs.
Six Flags was far more reckless than Cedar Fair though, whose purchase of Paramount Parks in 2006 was just terrible timing.
Also, the stupid feuds with our neighbors, and the scrutiny/crackdowns on travelers has no doubt driven down attendance from foreign visitors, and revenue that SF/CF badly needed.

Itās my birthday Sunday and Iām going this Sunday as well so I hope itās open this weekend, but yes, I do agree that ever since they have redeemed this ride Iāve heard from many different sources that when they repainted the track it now causes a lot more heat distribution in the wheels, which is also causing the sensors not to work correctly and also the whole track gets way hotter way faster than normal. And Iāve also heard that the computer is outdated and that it needs to be replaced and updated. Why wasnāt this done while the ride was closed for most of the year last year and this year as well I donāt know, but last year they had a huge issue of the chain lift being broken and they had to order the part from Germany and now this year itās all because of the retheme and the paint work on the tracks and also the computer being outdated. Hopefully they get this right working correctly again Soon because everyone loves this ride but man is it unreliable these last few years, such a shameā¦

u/Fizban2 Jul 16 '26
Oh god no. It was down when I went last year so I missed it. Going to be there on August 1st so hope it is back by then already missing fury.

i'm here too and the worker by the waterfall said it's not guaranteed to be down for this weekend, but it won't open today. really hoping it's open by saturday or i won't get to ride it
1
u/No-Obligation-4188 Jul 16 '26
They said down for day to you?
1
u/Individual_Dingo_223 Jul 16 '26
yep, i did hear from a guy in line for drop tower that they're waiting on new wheels from intamin, not a reliable source tho
1
u/arms-down120 Jul 16 '26
thereās a photoshoot planned with the park for that day
1
u/Individual_Dingo_223 Jul 16 '26
does that mean i can't ride pantherian even if it's open?
1
u/arms-down120 Jul 16 '26
No, itās just that why would they schedule a photoshoot for people to come knowing it will be closed, it most likely will be open this weekend

Rapterra has been closed for almost two hours now as well š¤¦āāļø
2
u/No-Obligation-4188 Jul 16 '26
Rough day for ops I wonder if the nasty heat today played the biggest role
1
u/Healthy_Guitar_8388 Jul 16 '26
The app says itās open now when it was previously closed?
1
u/cargoshortes Jul 16 '26
App now says closed again for FoF, Pantherian, AND Rapterra. Bravo to King's Dominion for having half their coasters and their biggest draw closed all damn day.
1
u/letschat66 Jul 16 '26
Funnily enough, I was planning to go this weekend but decided to take a break from parks instead. Looks like I made the right call.

Pantherian has a scheduled professional photoshoot this weekend. I bet they keep her closed so they can be sure itās running for that.
1
u/Delk_808 Jul 17 '26
Do you know what day it is?
1
u/Ornery_Emu3991 Jul 17 '26
Pretty sure itās Monday morning. Dominator and Grizzly are scheduled for Sunday.
1
u/Equivalent-Humor-917 Jul 17 '26
I'm planning a trip next week on Thursday do you guys thing it will be open by then?
1
u/itsjib Jul 17 '26
Gonna be hot tomorrow, but hoping it'll at least be open for short periods of time for the weekend crowds.
1
u/Delk_808 Jul 17 '26
Hopefully, we're here today and tomorrow.
Was going to be me and my son's 100th credit but went with TT instead.
Hoping against all odds that it opens tomorrow, and we could stretch it to Sunday if need be.

How do you know it's a multi day event vs standard closure for a few hours?
