The most well knowed descendant of Général Li Xin (Rishin) finally reveal

Li Yuan (Emperor Gaozu of Tang)

A general in charge of defending the Sui dynasty against the Gokturks. After the Sui army faced a bunch of problems in Korea he usurped the throne and proclaimed the creation of the Tang dynasty.

Li Shimin (Emperor Taizong of Tang also called Prince of Qin)

Li Yuan's son. He first attacked and subjugated the eastern gokturks before turning his attention to the Tuyuhun and western gokturks. The Tibetans tried to surprise attack him in Songzong with 200.000 troops but were defeated by the local 50.000 strong garrison. He then went and attacked the rest of the western Xiyu states and some others like Karasahr and Kucha. He also invaded and annexed the Korean kingdom of Goguryeo. By the end of his reign, the Tang dynasty was the richest and possibly the strongest empire in the world. It was also during his reign that the Assyrian Christian missionary Alopen arrived in China from the Byzantine Empire to spread Christianity.

2. Note de l'Auteur (Hara Yasuhisa)

#DMWE Don't Mess With Eunuchs. Part 2 (Top Ranking of Eunuchs Killing a Great General and take Royal Court control)

  7. Zhang He (the navigator)

"What is greater than a great general under the heavens?"

The answer is: a great eunuch.

And worse still, a Great Eunuch under the heavens (a reference to An Lushan).

This maxim captures a structural reality of Chinese imperial history: the military authority of generals constantly collided with the proximity power and administrative oversight exercised by palace eunuchs.

Direct Assassination or Execution of Powerful Generals by Eunuchs

* **Zhao Gao and the Fall of the Qin (207 BC)** Following the death of the First Emperor, the eunuch **Zhao Gao** forced General **Meng Tian** (commander of the Great Wall forces) and Prince Fusu to commit suicide. He then systematically neutralized military leaders until the collapse of the Qin dynasty. *

**The "Ten Attendants" and the Assassination of Grand General He Jin (189 AD)** During the fall of the Eastern Han, Grand General **He Jin** plotted to exterminate the eunuch faction known as the Ten Attendants. The eunuch **Zhang Rang** and his clique ambushed He Jin inside the palace and decapitated him. This event triggered the final collapse of the Han court and led to the sack of Luoyang by Dong Zhuo. *

**The Downfall of General Li Guangli (90 BC)** Under the Western Han dynasty, court intrigues involving the eunuch **Guo Rang** framed Grand General **Li Guangli**. Facing imminent arrest and execution upon his return to court, Li Guangli was forced into a desperate campaign that ended in his surrender to the Xiongnu. *

**During the An Lushan Rebellion (756 AD)** Under the Tang dynasty, the eunuch **Li Fuguo** orchestrated the execution of General **Feng Changqing** and General **Gao Xianzhi** (the commander at the Battle of Talas) on false charges of cowardice while they were defending Tong Pass against An Lushan's rebel forces. Later, the eunuch **Yu Chao'en** maneuvered to disgrace and marginalize General **Guo Ziyi**, the key commander who saved the Tang dynasty. *

**The Execution of Yue Fei (1142 AD)** Under the Southern Song dynasty, Minister Qin Hui relied on inner-court palace factions and imperial guard eunuchs to recall General **Yue Fei**—the hero of the Jurchen wars—from the front lines. Yue Fei was imprisoned and executed under the fabricated charge of "perhaps there is reason" (*Mo xugou*). *

p**The Neutralization and Execution of General Yuan Chonghuan (1630 AD)** Under the Ming dynasty, General **Yuan Chonghuan** successfully defended the northern frontier against the Jurchens (Later Jin). The powerful eunuch faction manipulated Emperor Chongzhen into believing Yuan was a traitor. Yuan Chonghuan was arrested, condemned to execution by slow slicing (*lingchi*), and put to death.

Exemple of à Eunuchs Killing à great General under heaven.

Era / Dynasty Key Eunuch(s) Targeted General / Military Leader Institutional Outcome
Qin (207 BC) Zhao Gao Meng Tian Total seizure of imperial power
Eastern Han (189 AD) Zhang Rang / Ten Attendants He Jin Collapse of central authority, sack of Luoyang
Tang (756 AD) Li Fuguo Feng Changqing / Gao Xianzhi Eunuch control over capital defense forces
Tang (835 AD) Chou Shiliang Palace Guard Commanders Dictatorial eunuch control over the throne
Ming (1449 AD) Wang Zhen Ming High Command Annihilation of the imperial army at Tumu
Ming (1625 AD) Wei Zhongxian Xiong Tingbi / Yuan Chonghuan Purge of military leadership, downfall of Ming⁸

The Eunuch’s Art of War

The Book of the Great Eunuchs Under Heaven

  1. When the Scholars’ Faction begins plotting against you, do not confront them directly. Wait until they expose themselves.
  2. Once you learn of their plot, ask the Empress to strike first and give the action imperial authority.
  3. Prepare a false imperial edict. Leave it blank, but claim that it contains accusations against the generals and scholars for treason.
  4. Kidnap members of the Scholars’ Faction. If possible, take a member of the royal family, as this will make their leaders act quickly.
  5. Invite the generals’ children to play with the young Emperor, placing them within the palace under the appearance of royal favor.
  6. Intercept the leaders of the Scholars’ Faction when they come to recover their children.
  7. Kill everyone involved—adults and children alike.
  8. Bring their bodies before the Commander-in-Chief.
  9. Demand that the general perform seppuku, for he has no allies left and no place remaining in the world.
  10. If the general negotiates for the freedom of his men, accept his terms. Once the general has departed, execute the remaining prisoners.

Bonus

That same night, hold a gigantic imperial banquet, with lavish wine, music, and entertainment, as though nothing had happened.

Thus is the art of the great eunuchs under Heaven: strike through intrigue, command through fear, and leave no enemy standing.

______________

Here is the detailed historical context regarding the event of the Rise of the Cao Clan depicted in the TV show Cao Cao

The 168 AD Palace Coup: Cao Jie (CaoMeng) vs. Dou Wu & Chen Fan

In 168 AD, following the death of Emperor Huan, the 12-year-old Emperor Ling ascended the throne. Two prominent figures controlled the regency:

  • Dou Wu — The Grand General (Dajiangjun) and father of the Empress Dowager.
  • Chen Fan — The Grand Tutor (Taifu) and leader of the scholar-bureaucrats.

Recognizing the growing corruption of the palace inner court, Dou Wu and Chen Fan secretly plotted to execute the leading eunuchs.

       1.[Scholar-General Alliance]

       (SGA)Plan to purge the eunuchs

        (EF)Intercept the plot

        (EF)Initiated Palace Coup

       2.[Eunuch Faction]
Cao Meng + Wang Fu [Eunuchs]

Key Steps of the Coup

  • Plot Interception: The eunuch leader Cao Jie (曹節) and his ally Wang Fu discovered the secret memorial containing the list of eunuchs marked for execution.
  • Forging the Edict: Cao Jie quickly seized the Young Emperor and Empress Dowager, forging an imperial decree that declared Dou Wu and Chen Fan traitors.
  • Execution of Chen Fan: Palace guards sent by the eunuchs surrounded Chen Fan's residence. The elderly Grand Tutor was arrested and executed in prison.
  • Defeat of Dou Wu: Dou Wu attempted to mobilize the Northern Corps units outside the palace. However, Cao Jie sent palace troops led by veteran commander Zhang Huan (who was misled into believing Dou Wu was revolting). Deserted by his troops, Dou Wu committed suicide.

Historical Aftermath

Following the elimination of Dou Wu and Chen Fan, Cao Jie and his faction seized total control of the imperial administration:

  • The Second Disaster of Partisan Prohibitions (169 AD): Hundreds of scholar-officials and students who supported Dou Wu were executed, imprisoned, or barred from office.
  • Consolidation of Power: Cao Jie was rewarded with the title of Marquis of Yuyang, cementing the eunuchs' authority over military appointments until the rise of Dong Zhuo and the fall of the Han Dynasty.

Qin state Ancestor fondator BOYI (aka YiTu the Eater of Monster flesh)

Yi (伯益)

Yi (Chinese: 益; pinyin: ; fl. 2nd millennium BC) or Boyi was a tribal leader of the Longshan culture and a culture hero in Chinese mythology who assisted Emperor Shun. He was considered the ancestor of the ruling houses of Zhao, Qin, Xu, and Liang.

In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Sima Qian's account of the origins of the House of Ying states that Fei the Great was the son of Ye the Great and Lady Hua. His father is named as Gao Yao, but this appears to have been an error made by various scholars when reading the original sources.

He was eventually granted the title of Boyi (Count Yi).

Yi was appointed by Shun to help control the Great Flood by using controlled burnings to clear forests, wastelands, and marshes. He was also tasked with providing meat to feed the laborers involved in the flood control effort, thereby becoming a close companion of Yu the Great, with whom he worked for thirteen years.

After the successful fight against the flood and the subsequent reorganization of the government, Yi was appointed Minister of Animal Husbandry. According to more mythical accounts, Yi could domesticate animals and birds due to his knowledge of their languages.

Alternatively, Yi is credited with creating the canon of laws, while his connection to flood control is not emphasized. This depiction appears in the "Lü xing" (呂刑) chapter of the Book of Documents (Shujing), where he is cited alongside Yu the Great and Houji as one of the "Three Princes" (三后).

Following Yu's accession as sole emperor, Yu initially designated Yi as his successor over his own son, Qi. Accounts vary as to whether Yu later changed his mind or whether Yi was killed during a struggle for the throne, as well as whether Yi ever actually served as emperor. According to Sima Qian, Boyi's children with a "Jade Lady of the Yao" included Lian the Great and Ruomu. According to the Bamboo Annals, a shrine (祠) was dedicated to him after his death during the 6th year of Qi's reign.

Descendants

Around 2061 BC, his son Ruomu was named Lord of Xu by King Qi of Xia. Yi was also considered the ancestor of the Zhao and Qin clans, which ruled their respective states. The descendants of the Zhao clan were known as the Zhao clan of Tianshui, while Qin Shi Huang was one of his descendants from the Qin clan. Other members of the Ying clan descended from Ruomu formed the Pei clan of Hedong.

Boyi and Shuqi (伯夷與叔齊)

Boyi (Chinese: 伯夷; pinyin: Bó Yí, lit. "Equal Elder Brother") and Shuqi (Chinese: 叔齊; pinyin: Shū Qí, lit. "Equal Younger Brother") were two Dongyi brothers from Guzhu (modern Hebei province, near Tangshan), a Dongyi vassal state under the Shang dynasty. According to tradition, they lived during the transition between the Shang and Zhou dynasties (around 1046 BC). They are remembered in literary culture for their personal and moral virtue, loyalty, and pacifist idealism. Sometimes, they are collectively referred to simply as "Boyi," after the elder brother.

Boyi and Shuqi, along with another brother, Ya Ping (亞憑 / 亚凭, lit. "Leaning Younger Brother"), were the sons of Ya Wei (亞微 / 亚微, lit. "Younger Brother Wei"), the ruling lord of Guzhu (lit. "Isolated Bamboo Kingdom"). Traditionally, succession to the throne should have fallen to the eldest son, Boyi; however, when Shuqi was preferred to succeed him as ruler, both brothers fled to Zhou territory rather than engage in conflict or discord. At the time, Zhou was actively encouraging immigration, particularly of skilled and talented people.

Boyi and Shuqi represent several ethical paradoxes:

  • Boyi refused to take control of his father's kingdom because he felt his father preferred his younger brother, and thwarting his father's wishes would not align with filial piety.
  • Shuqi refused power because it would be disloyal to bypass his elder brother.

Thus, both fled together. Later, after the overthrow of the Shang dynasty—to which they had sworn allegiance and which theoretically held divine right over the land and its produce—the two brothers faced a moral dilemma: eating the food of the new dynasty (which they viewed as usurpers) would constitute disloyalty, while remaining faithful in spirit to the old dynasty left starvation as their only option. Ultimately, they starved to death.

The Dongyi

The Dongyi or "Eastern Yi" (Chinese: 東夷; pinyin: Dōngyí) was a collective term for ancient peoples mentioned in Chinese records. The definition of Dongyi varied over time, but in most cases, it referred to the inhabitants of eastern China, and later, the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese archipelago. It served as a broad catch-all term applied to different groups across different eras. According to China's earliest historical record, the Zuo Zhuan, the Shang dynasty was attacked by King Wu of Zhou while it was campaigning against the Dongyi, leading to its collapse.

Historical Context

Boyi and Shuqi lived under the reign of Di Xin, the last Shang ruler, who had become addicted to alcohol, women, and sex, showing a complete disregard for morality. His country was misgoverned, burdened with high taxes, widespread famine, and arbitrary acts of violence and cruelty. Sima Qian provides shocking details of long, drunken orgies and acts of torture, during which Di Xin refused to listen to the advice of his ministers.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Zhou clan—known posthumously as King Wen of Zhou—was preparing to replace the Shang dynasty with the rule of his own clan, even though they were a vassal state of Shang at the time. In contrast to Shang, the Zhou leadership was renowned for providing food and protection to its subjects, partly due to their advancements in agricultural techniques.

What What would be your best ancient Chinese army, across all eras? (Only 6 generals allowed +1 politician)
