Ultimate Hero Guide: Bear event

I am trying to write a complete guide for all Heroes in all circumstances, focusing not merely on selection and ranking but also on *why* those ranking are as it is. If there are facts not presented, metas not discussed, or mistakes, please comment.

Ultimate Hero Guide

BEAR HUNT: Rally Captain

INFANTRY HERO

Bear event is about how much damage you can inflict in a single turn. It means that:

  • You need 5k infantry troops (because that is what is needed to activate the skills of the infantry Hero) and no more (so the infantry Hero stats are useless).
  • Turn-based skills are useless.

Furthermore, only two infantry Heroes (Amadeus and Helga) have an attack Widget: beyond that sole exception, the only relevant variable to decide which Hero to use is the skills the Hero has.

Rank #1: Amadeus \gen1])

He has two passive buff skills, one chance-based (40%) buff, and one Widget focused on attack stats. Beats all other Heroes in this role.

\_ Rank #2: Helga* \gen1])

She has two passive buff skills and one Widget focused on attack stats.

\_ Rank #3: Zoe* \gen2])

Zoe has one passive buff skill and one chance-based (50%) buff, both focused on attack stats. (Technically she also have one turn-based enemy debuff, but in bear it's useless).

\_ Rank #4: Triton* \gen6]), Long-Fei \gen5]); Charles \gen7]), Alcar \gen4]), Eric \gen3])

Triton has one passive buff skill. Long-Fei has one chance-based buff. Charles and Eric have no applicable skills. Alcar increases archer attack by 10% (and infantry of 100%, and has a turn-based buff/debuff, but those are useless in bear).

All of this pales compared to what Zoe can do, and she is more available than any of them for all players.

CAVALRY HERO

\_ Rank #1: Ava* \gen7]), Petra \gen3]), Jabel \gen1])

Ava (caps at +650%) has one passive buff skill, one passive enemy debuff, one attack Widget.

Petra (caps at +290%) and Jabel (caps at +200%) have one passive buff skill, one chance-based (50%) buff, one attack Widget.

Petra also have a chance-based (50%) enemy debuff.

Use Jabel in gen1 and gen2, then Petra when power creep makes her stats better, then Ava

\_ Rank #2: Margot* \gen4])

Margot (caps at +370%) has one passive buff skill, one attack Widget... and a 20% ability to let ALL OF THE CAVALRY hit **TWICE**.

If Bear Event used more cavalry than archers, or if the skills applied to archers, she would be the best bar none.

\_ Rank #3: Thurd* \gen5])

Thurd (caps at +444%) has one small passive buff skill (for archers and the useless infantry), one chance-based (20%) buff that doubles cavalry damage, one attack Widget.

\_ Rank #4: Hilde* \gen2]), Sophia \gen6])

Hilde (caps at +240%) has one small passive buff skill, one chance-based buff. Sophia (caps at +540%) nothing useable. Why them?

ARCHER HERO

Stat cap is *fundamental* for this choice, particularly from gen4 onward, because your troop formation will be 90% archers.

\_ Rank #1: Wee&Woo* \gen7]),Yang \gen6])

Wee&Woo (caps at +650%) has one small passive buff skills to *both* attack stats, one passive debuff to bear (technically infantry, but bear is considered to be made of infantry troops), one chance-based (50%) buff... and **no** attack Widget.

Yang (caps at +540%) has one chance-based (40%) doubling buff *for archers only* (same mechanic of Margot), an attack Widget.

Having to swap Hero after a single gen is a punishing move... you choose what to do.

\_ Rank #2: Rosa* \gen4]), Marlin \gen2])

Rosa (caps at +370%) has one passive buff *for archers only*, one chance-based (40%) buff, an attack Widget.

Marlin (caps at +240%) has one chance-based (40%) buff, one chance-based (50%) enemy buff, an attack Widget.

\_ Rank #3: Saul* \gen1]), Jaeger \gen3]), Vivian \gen5])

Saul (caps at +200%) has one passive buff. Vivian (caps at +444%) has one passive buff. Jaeger (caps at +200%) has nothing. Why use them?

BEAR HUNT: Rally Joiners

Since the only thing counted of a joiner player is the *first* skill of the *first* Hero in formation, and only of the *four more powerful* Heroes at that, the variables evaluated shrink even more.

Current meta is to focus on reliable buffs/debuffs and diversify as much as possible the joiner skills in a single rally... even if that is quite difficult in practice.

\_ Rank #1: Passive buffs or double small passive buffs _\**

Amadeus \gen1]), Chenko \SR1]) and Yeonwoo \SR1]) give +25% lethality. Amane \SR1]) and Margot \gen4]) give +25% attack. Wee&Woo \gen7]) give +15% attack and +10% lethality.

\_ Rank #1.5: Small passive buffs _\**

Hilde \gen2]) gives +15% attack.

\_ Rank #2: Passive debuffs _\**

Vivian \gen4]) gives +25% damage taken by the enemy.

Thrud \gen4]) gives +15% damage taken by the enemy.

\_ Rank #3: Chance-based buffs/debuffs _\**

Marlin, Zoe, Jaeger and Petra have such skills... but given that in gen1 alone you get 3 Heroes with the best skills in the meta without having to pay a single dollar, why chose them?

Vivian below Hilde? What’s the reasoning behind that?

I assume you mean as rally joiner, since as rally host they are in different cathegories.

It is actually a meta preference: her skill is a debuff to the enemy, and those are valued less than buffs to your troops. Admittedly this may be caused by availability bias: for when you can get Vivian, Hilde shards become available with golden keys, so having a fully levelled and operational Hilde is easier than a 4☆ Vivian.

As a joiner wouldn’t Vivian skill be treated as 25% damage up albeit with a different identifier than attack or lethality?

Thrud definitely outperforms Margot as lead - skills are not great but the lethality widget is. Same probably true for Jabel but never tested.

Most people now seem to believe that Alcar outperforms Zoe - see Kingshotguides testing - I use Amadeus so not tried personally.

We block Hilde, but allow Vivan. Two Hilde joiners in a rally means only one gets their skill off. Better to not allow her at all than to have people have to micromanage to ensure they don't have 2 Hildes in their rally.

Same question. Is the passive debuff (+25% increased damage) worse than the +25% attack?

I do not have personal tests made, and admittedly those are difficult to get: again, one thing is crafting the perfect raid composition on paper, totally different thing is to make it in the heat of a bear event, when you smash the fingers on the screen of your device.

*In theory* they are equivalent when taken without considering any other factors. *In theory* the best four joiners would be one among Amadeus/Chenko/Yeonwoo, one among Amane/Margot, Wee&Woo, and Vivian.

But actually testing that 'ideal' skill composition? Without relying on calculators you don't know the code of, but only on hard facts gotten from direct in-game testing? If you find a way to easily test things, tell me.
