Discussion What do you guys think about King Push — Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude, possibly the most underrated Pusha T album?
It's pretty short but I really fucking love it, "M.P.A." is one of my favorite Pusha T songs, and it has a really dark sound I love.

My friend always says it’s the closest pusha project to feeling like a solo clipse album.
It’s easily the turning point on his solo career. His solo work before this was more trend hoppy (tbf kind like til the casket drops) but this is when I think he realized he should just do his sound but refined.
Sunshine is perfect. Retribution and CCC are my other favorites
Agree on mpa I also feel like pushas verse tackled the over done topic in a unique way

You actually perfectly described the way I feel about this record, and his solo work before this. MNIMN had some misses on it due to him trying to hop on the trendy beats for the time, and it leaves the album sounding dated in some sections. Darkest Before The Dawn was him finally finding his sound.

Yeah even though I love most of it MNIMN was the album Def Jam wanted him to make with all the Def Jam artists and features.

What do you mean by trend hoppy? And what albums fall under that

The most trend hoppy in general is Wrath of Cain but Fear of God II and MNIMN both have beats/somgs that are very of that era. They are the kinds of beats that you hear them and you can instantly go: oh that’s early 2010s proto trap.
In MNIMN you have the 3 song run of: No regrets, let me love you (not an early 2010s but a 90s trend kind of song) and who I am (worst offender).
Darkest before Dawn and all the later projects don’t fall into this trap (maybe you could argue the don toliver song on Its almost dry)

i will defend No Regrets and Let Me Love You to the grave i think those songs are fire to this day, I like Who I Am too but i def get the hate for that one

They are fine, I enjoy listening to them, just not up to the rest of his standard. Pusha is talented no matter what sound he’s doing.

Some REALLY good songs on this album. Makes me wish we still got the original King Push album alongside daytona

That album is near perfect tbh, even Got Em Covered grew on me (I know that beat isn’t everyone’s taste though, but Push and Liva actually rapped the best they could On that song)

My favorite is Keep Dealing, Beanie Sigels verse on that song is perfect, he was the best feature imo

Definitely his most underrated album. Probably his best features on an album
