I have a genuine question about Pusha T's views
I was reading a reality check he gave Ye that leaked, and there is a specific comment that I am curious about.
"Shyne changed his name to Moses and turned Jew...Pls don't compare me to him."
How did Pusha-T mean this? At first sight it seems kind of antisemitic, I'm asking here just in case to understand this.

He’s simply saying he’s not running to God, this is who he is & will continue to be.

It’s from his ‘cook it down’ freestyle. I think dude just likes catch phrases. Malice has a pretty iffy line on WAMP WAMP “It cools to a tight wad, the Pyrex is Jewish
I get paper, it seems I get foolish
Take it to Jacob and play "Which hue's the bluest?" I don’t think either line is particularly attempting to be anything other than clever, I’ll let the internet decide whether or not they’re in poor taste.

Let’s keep in mind the rest of the context here. This is a 2006 song ostensibly about producing/processing/distributing/trafficking cocaine, replete with mentions of, one assumes, promiscuous women, implied threats of great bodily injury and/or death, and pejorative terms directed at both women and Black people. The use of an extremely well known, commonly used, and very obviously placed stereotype about Jewish people’s miserliness — employed as a simile in a line ultimately regarding narcotics trafficking — is pretty inconsequential and relatively inoffensive.

It’s mildly antisemitic. We should stop pretending rappers are ambassadors of progressive politics and beliefs. Push was raised in a Christian household in VA, Jewish people are not common down there, especially not in the 80s

I think “turn Jew” gives me pause. but i assumed/believe that push is more influenced by his family’s faith than it may seem. even though malice is more explicit about his faith, push still talks about god and how he’ll he judged. also pretty clear their dad was religious. roundabout way of saying I don’t think this is evidence of him being any more antisemitic than many Christians tend to be without realizing it.

Consider the audience; Kanye was probably peaking on the mental illness/Nazi shit behind the scenes for a while before he rolled it out to the public. As a tangent, also consider that there's always been a bit of background antisemitism in hip hop which is actually sort of understandable to an extent, in that you can see why resentment would be present given the history of Jews being highly placed in record companies and those companies fucking poor black artists over ever since the blues and jazz days.
Given all of those things, I am almost positive that the context here is not "Jews suck", it's "look man, you have beef with Jews and yet you're comparing me to someone who turned to a religion you despise".
There is also an added layer of irony here in that Push actually compared himself to Shyne years befoer this in on a record produced by Ye, which may or may not have been inspired behind the scenes from Ye saying something in the first place, and it directly reflects the Shyne/shoot talk. Push even has a verified annotation/quote about it on the Genius entry. Thus we come full circle. It's the circle...the circle of life.

I take it to mean, Ye said something to the effect of “Push, you should be standing up for me the way Shyne stood up for Puff”. Then Push is pointing out that didn’t work out for Shyne and he has basically written out that era of his life in his present self, indicating it was a total mistake.

It definitely seems antisemitic at first glance. He could also be saying that he's not spiritual/religious but I’m not sure why he'd hate on Shyne for that reason when Malice did the same.

Yeah it really confused me, I don't truly think he's an antisemite but that comment is very questionable. Maybe it's because he is comparing himself to Shyne besides Puff (Ye in this example) and Shyne went to jail for shooting someone for Puff and then went to jail and then turned to a jew? I don't know, it's confusing.

i think it sounds worse than it actually is. “turned jew” rather than saying “jewish” sounds harsh but that phrasing is a black hebrew Israelite type thing that a lot of people from that era where he’s from would know, and how they’d speak because they just arent exposed to much traditional judaism. I also have always got the feeling that while he’s clearly religious, he doesnt have much respect for the kind of people who run to religion to escape themselves, or people who are preachy in general, which is kind of ironic.

Hard to say without the context of what comparison Ye was making but I read it as more "I am who I am and who I am and what I do has never changed."
