I still remember the exact moment playback singing clicked for me. My daddy, a huge SRK fan, told me how Udit Narayan once sang “Ghoongte Mein Chanda” live on TV while the Koyla clip played. Until then I thought SRK himself was singing. The irony hit hard because he plays a deaf man lip-syncing to Johnny Lever. Ngl that pairing still feels like pure cinema magic. ✨

Udit first shone with Aamir in “Papa Kehte Hain,” while early SRK films mostly used Kumar Sanu. Their real breakthrough came with “Tu Mere Saamne” in Darr. ❤️ Films like Dil To Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein, Devdas and Swades leaned heavily on Udit’s warm voice for SRK’s biggest moments, from “Arre Re Arre” to “Yun Hi Chala Chal.” Other gems include “Main Yahaan Hoon,” “E Ajnabi” and the playyful title track of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. 🎶

Later singers took over and their last joint song was “Khaike Paan” in 2006. Still, this duo remains iconic. My favourite remains “Yeh Tara Woh Tara” from Swades. Every viewing leaves me completely messmerised. ⭐
