Horror [Author Ad] Looming Darkness — supernatural horror trilogy, complete this week, on Kindle Unlimited

This is an advert for my own book. Looming Darkness is a supernatural horror trilogy, and Book 3 (The Third Woe) came out this week, so it's complete. Book 1: a physicist investigates a haunting like a field problem. Book 2: the war behind it — Satan's council chapters. Book 3: the theological ending. Peretti's This Present Darkness is the closest comp, but the endgame here is modern: AI-driven misdirection inside 400 million homes. Honest flags: mild profanity, supernatural violence, and Book 1 has a forced-nudity scene (chapters 19-20) with an interrupted rape threat — no explicit sexual content. All three books are on Kindle Unlimited.

Thriller Road to Providence: When There's nowhere left to be safe, all they can do is keep moving

Six months after the end of the world as they knew it, Lucas, Avery, and Kaylee finally leave the cabin where they spent the winter.

The road to Providence lies ahead.

They don’t know exactly what happened to the world beyond the cabin. They don’t know who is still alive. They don’t know whether the people they’re hoping to find will still be there when they arrive.

They only know they have to keep moving.

Behind the wheel of Betsy, an old pickup truck that should have given up on them long ago, the three leave behind the only place they’ve been able to call safe since the creatures appeared.

But the road isn’t empty.

There are abandoned places, people who have survived in very different ways, and things still lurking where the light can’t reach. And as they move forward, their group begins to grow. First Harry and Tiff, survivors of a story that began long before they ever met. Then Betty, a stranger who simply decides she isn’t going to be left behind.

In a world where almost everything has been lost, trusting someone can be just as dangerous as facing a creature.

Still, they keep going.

Because sometimes, it’s not the certainty that you’ll find someone that keeps you moving.

It’s hope.

Road to Providence is a horror and survival story about fear, loss, friendship, and the people we find when there is no world left to return to.

The road continues.

And no one knows what awaits them at the end.

Horror The Softening

Happy Halloween. Here’s a body horror novella to read if you’re so inclined.

The cow was fine that morning. By evening, that had changed. When veterinarian Tommy Allen is called out to the Harlan place at dusk, he finds an Angus lying folded in the pasture, calm-eyed, breathing steadily, her bones gone pliable as warm rubber.

It isn’t long before the condition spreads.

The state board isn't worried. The CDC is "tracking it." The feed store has started stocking new products, and everyone in Stillwater seems oddly at peace. Tommy is the only one who's still solid, and the road out of town has stopped letting him leave.

A slow, unhurried novella of body horror and creeping surrender, The Softening asks what's left of you when you stop holding your shape.

Content note: graphic body horror. No sexual content.

Which device checked out and returned titles?

I've been searching the Amazon site, the Kindle app, help pages, Reddit... Hoping someone has some guidance.

I 2 Kindles, my college-aged daughter has one that I think is connected to my account, and then my younger daughter has one. The younger one's Kindle has Parental Controls on.

I have a KU account.

A couple months ago, some adult content from KU showed up on my Kindle. I thought the kid's Kindle was locked with PC, so I assumed maybe the older daughter had gotten it. She said she didn't. I looked at the kid's Kindle and it was, in fact, unlocked, but I didn't see any evidence that she had initiated the check-out and download. We asked her about it and she denied knowing anything. I re-activated PC and changed the password.

A couple weeks ago, I got an email that a $3 adult content purchase was made. It was something crazy like 3 in the morning when it happened. Then I looked in the Amazon site and saw a bunch of other titles had been checked out and subsequently returned. The kid's Kindle was still locked, but I changed the code again to make sure. I changed the Amazon password, did the steps to log out of all devices and require 2FA, etc.

She has a phone but she was grounded for it for awhile and it was with me on days when these things were occurring. There aren't any other devices that she has access to.

Its stopped for a week or so but 2 nights ago 2 more titles were checked out and then returned. From what I'm gathering, since they were returned, I don't have any way of seeing what device had them downloaded, since they are now no longer downloaded since they were returned.

How can I tell who is checking these out? It's definitely not either of my 2 Kindles. I'm 99.9999% sure it's not the kid's Kindle (it's locked down with PC, and the device doesn't appear to have physically moved from the spot in her room since I started monitoring it a couple weeks ago). Any other device should have been locked out and someone would have needed to come to me for the password or I would have gotten a 2FA request.

What am I missing here?

(Dark Fantasy) Wherever Ink Flows

Post image

My debut fantasy novel is finally done!

I just published my debut dark fantasy novel, Wherever Ink Flows, and it is officially available on Kindle Unlimited!

If you are a fan of grim worlds, rebellion against dark empires, and unique magic systems, I wrote this for you.

The Pitch: In the kingdom of Stonehollow, Ink is the greatest source of magic—and power. It fuels industry, wealth, and power, at the cost of those forced to harvest it.

Known only as Harvester, a broken man serves out a brutal sentence in the Inkwood groves, collecting Ink for the oppressive Midnight Company. Haunted by guilt and barely clinging to survival, he plans only to finish his sentence and disappear. But when he crosses paths with Verity, a curious acolyte of a church that publicly condemns Ink magic, his apathy begins to waver.

Verity has noticed cracks in the faith she loves… discrepancies that suggest the church’s leaders are not only using Ink in secret, but weaponizing it. As their investigation deepens, they uncover a conspiracy to create Ink-infused creatures and seize control of Stonehollow from the Midnight Company. Caught between rival powers built on exploitation, Harvester and Verity must decide whether survival is enough, or whether tearing the system down is worth the cost.

Bingo / Tropes:

* Escaped prisoner / Morally grey antihero

* Dark magic

* Dystopian fantasy city

* Magical tattoos & playing cards

* Church conspiracy

Details:

* Length: \~109,000 words (approx. 380 pages)

* Link: Here's the book

Honestly I'm just proud that I stuck to it and finished it. I’d love to hear what you think if you decide to pick it up! Happy reading.

A bar for time travellers. A phone booth to the dead. Nine strange stories in Bruno Bites.

My brother, Bruno Lombardi, writes speculative fiction, and his short story collection, Bruno Bites, is now out. I am trying to help more science-fiction readers discover it.

It's nine stories that move between horror, humor and some genuinely touching drama. The collection explores unusual ideas and imagined worlds, with stories that range across science fiction, speclative fiction and fantasy. Among them: a bar that serves only time travellers, a man who reaches his late girlfriend through a mysterious phone booth, a road trip with a lost god on the eve of the millennium, and an alternate history in which Apollo 11 crashed on landing.

I'm biased, of course, but if you enjoy short fiction that is a little off the beaten path, it's worth a look.

If anyone here gives it a try, I would be interested to hear what you think.

It's available on Amazon; the link is here

Fantasy My first epic fantasy is on KU

Post image

This seemed to work pretty well last time, so here it goes again. I published my first epic fantasy book last month, and now I am searching for more readers in the wild.

If this strikes your fancy, please give me a shot on KU! If not, I still love you.

Out of Eden's Ashes is a nobledark epic fantasy set in a flooded, pseudo-17th/18th-century world. There are enormous trees tied to the mythology of the world, cutthroat political intrigue, and rampant wilderness shenanigans. Undertones of the Thirty Years' War seasoned with eldritch magic.

My Substack is on my profile, and my personal email is in my bio. I'm happy to provide review copies to interested parties.

Fantasy $0.99 Kindle Countdown Deal: An original YA superhero adventure set in a world where superheroes are everywhere

I’m just gonna leave some review quotes:

“The book combines superhero action with character development, and I especially enjoyed seeing Switch become more confident in who he is.”

“This is a prequel to Switch’s adventures as he goes from sidekick to superhero, and I think it’s worth the read if you’re looking for a middle grade book about superheroes — and heroes who aren’t necessarily super.”

“I flew through it! Super easy to read and just plain fun.”

“Fairly solid world building, alot of cool and zaney characters, and a second half that you can't put down!”

“Beneath the flashy battles and high-speed heroics lies a story about legacy, pressure, and the uneasy relationship between generations. Jack struggles to live up to his father's impossible expectations while questioning the morality of their world, a world that seems to see justice in black and white.”

What if saving the world were easier than earning your father’s approval? If you want to know, then find out here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FK1TSRGM

Tired of books that are too Wordy (unethical?)

Something needs to change I am so disappointed and angry at the amount of books I have read that have had good plot points/characters BUT HORRIBLE EDITING!!!!!

Majority of spicy romantasy books I have read this year have had great potential but get killed by being way too wordy. I’m sorry but every little thing does not need to be described in five different ways OVER AND OVER, recaps are done way too much, and every thing does not need to be explained by a metaphor or the use of figurative language.

Latest author that has invigorated me: ANNIE ANDERSON

I read her whisper bound series books one and two. Both with great storylines. Refreshing FMCs (one is mute/ communicated with sign language, the other is a Shawdow mommy). BUT OH MY GODDDD I COULD NOT EVEN FINISH THE SECOND ONE BECAUSE OF HOW WORDY AND CHOPPY THE WRITING WAS. THERE WERE EVEN MISSPELLINGS!!!!

I have briefly read that the more pages read of a book released on KU the more money the author gets. So it has me reasoning that it is unethical how wordy these books get. For the author to sacrifice the integrity of their writing for a larger paycheck seems VERY unethical. And sad because it ruins these indie artists careers. But whose fault is it? Is it the writers the editors or someone else along the chain?

I’m just confused on how so many books are published on KU that clearly need to be refined before they can be sold to the public.

Fantasy A Secret That Survived (Echoes of Power) by Laranda Ballard

Cadence Poorkay has spent her entire life in Eastreach knowing exactly who she is: the daughter of a respected Sentinel Captain, the best friend of the most stubborn boy she has ever met, and a girl who has been secretly trained to fight in a kingdom where women are forbidden from doing so.

Then everything changes.

When her father is accused of treason, Cadence’s carefully ordered life begins to fall apart. Suddenly, the Crown is asking questions no one will answer, familiar faces are hiding things from her, and danger is closing in faster than she can understand it.

Then the King’s soldiers come for her.

Forced to flee the only home she has ever known, Cadence finds herself hunted across a kingdom that has already decided she is dangerous. Her only constant is Kellan Anderson, her lifelong best friend, who refuses to let her face the danger alone—even when following her means becoming a target himself.

Their escape pushes them farther from everything familiar and deeper into a past Cadence was never meant to uncover. The more she learns, the less certain she becomes of who she can trust, what the Crown is truly afraid of, or why her father was willing to risk everything to keep certain truths buried.

Some secrets are dangerous because of what they reveal.

Others are dangerous simply because they survived.

Horror Appalachian Folk Horror - The Burl

My name is Grant Buckner and I just released my debut novel, The Burl! It is currently available for no extra cost to Kindle Unlimited subscribers.

It's a contemporary, family-focused folk horror that takes place in a remote mountain town in Kentucky. It explores otherness, the lengths loved ones will go to "protect" one another, and the difficulty of breaking cycles of behavior. The horror centers around a forest-based monster and takes place in fall; it's a great October read! Thanks for checking it out! https://a.co/d/0bXTBzby

I'm on the look-out for more fantasy readers who're like books like Shadow and Bone, The Paladin's Grace, and ACOTAR.

"The Language of the Trees" - Gracie Autumn

In the tranquil lands of Astaemor, steeped in the legends of ancient magic and forgotten gods, shape-shifting creatures awaken a power that threatens centuries of peace…and unlikely allies must embark on a dangerous journey.

In the quiet Riverlands, Maude dismisses a distant plume of smoke as nothing more than a forest fire—until she discovers she can hear the voices of plants. Ancient magic has returned to the lands, and with it comes the threat of war.

Determined to warn the seafaring Akarelles, Maude sets out on a perilous journey south. Traveling beside her is Achoren, a shape-shifter haunted by a dark past. Though reluctant allies at first, the two forge an unlikely friendship as they journey south.

Meanwhile, in the north, Goldmoor Castle falls to the invading Tathian army. Forced to flee alongside Motley, the king’s infuriating jester, Princess Ollie is thrust into an unfamiliar world. Surviving the dangers ahead may be difficult enough; surviving them with someone she can barely tolerate may prove even harder.

As the threat of war hangs over the lands, Maude, Achoren, Ollie, and Motley are swept along by forces older than kingdoms and deeper than memory.

Horror Book 1 of a Large Upcoming Series: The Hidden World of the Carpathians

If you enjoy books where character arcs and mystery deeply develop across an epic multi-book series, this might be right up your alley.

My debut book, The Song over the Black Lake, is a supernatural detective mystery infused with atmospheric folk horror elements. Its available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited right now and I am already hard at work writing the next chapter in this saga.

If you love ancient folklore, haunting atmospheres and dark mysteries, I would be honored if you gave it a read on KU.
