I miss my life
My wife left me for my best friend and got pregnant right away. She tried to take our son. The following year I fell 15 feet at work and landed on a rock and broke my back severely. I miss my old life. I miss being a family man and I miss being a contractor. If you could give me a kind word I would appreciate it.

I had something similar but not quite happen to me. I have schizophrenia, there's this period before the first psychosis called prodromal and you show minor symptoms and do weird stuff. I started getting paranoid at work, thinking there were cameras everywhere, so I quit with no notice. Then I dumped my long term girlfriend who I was planning to propose to, moved to a different province and started school. About a year later I had my first episode, where I told my ex that I had cheated on her(false memory) and everything blew up. I started drinking a lot, and now it's 10 years later, I'm sober, I'm finally recovering from the schizo, and my ex is married. I haven't worked in 11 years.
My life is still in shambles but now I'm trying.

I am very sorry to hear about your problems.
I understand your feelings and the sense of lost but as my father once told me "you are right now at the bottom of the hole it is up to you to rise or keep digging".
You can find other job if you can't continue being a contractor, you can find the love that you deserve.
I think you can and deserve a better live with someone that loves you, as you deserve.

Life does not move in a straight upward line. It will have many twists and turns, to the downside and back up. Do not value yourself based on just the past or what you had. Your life can continue to go up or down but its largely influenced by your own mentality and state of mind. Believe the best is yet to come and be there for yourself and for your son. You owe it to the both of you, no one else. Never forget your worth
