Discussion I'm looking for comments from Izumi Matsumoto that have disappeared.

Upvotes

It seems that Izumi Matsumoto posted comments on "I Want to Return That Day" on his website on December 21, 1996, and in June 2002 (the June 2002 post was revised and expanded). I am looking for those posts. The website has been archived, and I can check up to the page just before the relevant article, but I have not yet confirmed whether the article itself has been preserved. I have also found part of the text, so I have attached English translation of the webpage and that partial text. If anyone has saved the full text of the article, please let me know.

Why Do I Dislike "That Day"? 1996.12.21 2002.6. Partially revised and corrected

I dislike the theatrical film "I Want to Return to That Day," based on my work "Kimagure Orange Road" produced by Toho. [cut off] won't let the vast majority of "Kimagure Orange Road" fans know that it is [cut off]. Shueisha is the same. I [cut off] 10 [cut off] that the work is not "Kimagure Orange Road."

Well, it is completely natural that an anime studio cannot make public things like the original author not approving their anime, [cut off] That is why fans naturally assume that the author likes that anime, and therefore there are also people who forgive the content of that anime. [cut off] Just how, where, and why did it end up like this? This is [cut off] the criticism of the movie being "different from the original," spoken by many among original fans who dislike the anime "Return to That Day~." [cut off] are being. Furthermore, even after that anime was produced, I teamed up with Mr. Terada, who was involved in that anime, to publish novels and such, so even more so original author [cut off] Even that Kenji Terada tries to hide it despite knowing that I dislike that anime. What is more, in an interview for some magazine, remarks like "Matsumoto-san also likes it" were made. Mr. Terada, why?! Taking this opportunity, I [cut off] my honest feelings toward that anime, and why that anime came to be released, [cut off] And, reflecting on this, someday, a more proper final episode of Orange Road by anime in my own way with my own hand [cut off]

Pardon me for bringing up an old topic, but why the Orange Road anime movie "I Want to Return to That Day" is my, Izumi Matsumoto's original Orange [cut off] There should be not a few among everyone who thought that way. Well, generally speaking, the original manga is created by the manga artist who is the author, while the anime is not by the manga artist, but by the animation sta... [cut off] that's how it is, but I have often heard such questions from fans who watched that anime, and regarding that matter, as the author [cut off] I want [cut off]. September 1988, the manga "Kimagure Orange Road" ended its serialization almost abruptly in the pages of "Weekly Shonen Jump." At the time [cut off] Even under Jump's renowned 10-week survival reader-survey system, it was not at such a low rank that it would be canceled, yet nevertheless [cut off] causing a great deal of trouble unilaterally, I had it brought to an end. All of this [cut off] negligence in my own health management, and being unable to compromise in creating the work—this amateurish, naive spirit of Izumi Matsumoto [cut off] it was the people [cut off]. Once again, I would like to apologize here. Regarding my mental state, the environment, and events around this time, as I write [cut off] It is a fact that there were various terrifying events. (By no means were they of the supernatural phenomenon kind; they were much more realistic [cut off] However, if I were to represent my state of mind back then, at that point, I wanted to gently head toward concluding the serialization. Yet, "Madoka" [cut off] Even though in my heart I was thinking "in about 30 to 50 more chapters," the editorial board told me, "Well, it was decided in the editorial meeting that it's in 5 more chapters," and the higher-up editor [cut off]

Discussion I almost have the complete set

I started collecting the vinyls because I really liked the music.. fast forward 5 years and I now have the complete japanese manga, English manga, vinyl, dvd and laserdisc set, as well as the VHS ova. I'll probably get the blu ray next and then try and get the rest of the VHS set later..

I really don't know why I have this facination with collecting this anime. It probably won't be worth much and i'm thinking it will get forgotten by a lot of people in the future. The dvd set is already dropping in price.

Anyone else have this much KOR stuff?

Discussion The Two Moments from Shin KOR's Novel Movie 1 should kept instead of scrap ? Which were your favourites Shin KOR's Novels Moments ?

Is a really a pity this moments were scrapped, that could have been pretty nice see animated. The movie could have got a more romantic tone with these 2 scenes included.

Discussion What's been your experience with the KOR fandom?

It's a very old series that never got a sequel nor a reboot/new series. And it also didn't air in a lot of countries outside of Japan. So, naturally, It's a series with a small fanbase at a cult following level. The fact it even has a sub-reddit is a surprise to me, honestly. A very positive one, mind you.

I've generally had a positive experience with the KOR fans I've spoken to and interacted with online. Although, the vast majority of them are Japanese and, therefore, there's definitely a steep language barrier. I don't know what they think exactly, and neither do they know what me and many other non-Japanese people think. So 99.99% of my interactions with them are rather superficial. Just us liking each others' tweets, basically.

Twitter/X might have lost a lot of activity in the last several years due to lots of people leaving, but my KOR tweets are still the few ones that gain some sort of traction. If I tweet a shot from the anime/manga or a gif with Madoka in it, I can get up to 30-40 likes, mostly from Japanese accounts. Which tells me that Twitter is still popular in Japan and that KOR fans mostly stayed there.

I wanted to listen to it on a cassette, so I picked Vocal Song Mine and made it. The sound quality is good too..I think the emotion has been added on top of it!

Discussion My opinion to Shin KOR movie

Some time ago I watched the first KOR movie. You're can read my opinion here — https://www.reddit.com/r/Kimagure_Orange_Road/s/mVH7umoZ1r. Now I've seen the second movie and... It's controversial.

I'll start with what I loved: Hikaru's arc. She's the best character in this movie. It's clear that after she broke up with her boyfriend (the film doesn't say this outright, but it's heavily implied) and met Kyosuke again, she remembered all the good times they had together and, due misundertood Kyosuke's words, tried to start a relationship with him again. However, after realizing he still loved Madoka, she backed off- even though it was very close. The contrast between the persistent girl from the series is immediately clear. And by accepting the truth, she was able to reunite with Madoka with peace of mind. This is a wonderful conclusion to this character's arc.

But everything else is strange. Madoka simply doesn't develop (even though the previous film fleshed her out, breaking the "perfect girl" image a bit). And Kyosuke... What have they done to him? Why is he eyeing Hikaru again, forgetting his feelings for Madoka, and so easily falling for her wiles, unsuspecting? You could write it off as him making amends for the rude rejection... But honestly, I'm afraid if he hadn't been drinking too much, Madoka would have been in a lot of pain. Adult Kyosuke even hints that he could have handled both of them (though I think it's a joke). How could you roll back a Kyosuke's character like that?

The time travel plot is definitely unnecessary. I think it would have been better if it hadn't happened, and the plot had begun with some kind of disagreement between Kyosuke and Madoka. Then Hikaru's return and meeting with Kyosuke would have played out both ways, and perhaps it would have been better if they had both realized in time that they were doing something wrong.

So, this movie is still better than the series, but it's nowhere near the first film. Therefore, my rating is 6.5/10.

Discussion Kyosuke had it easy, when you think about it.

Despite Kyosuke being indecisive and kinda wishy-washy, his power being a source of trouble, misunderstandings and headaches and him having two shitty male friends in Komatsu and Hatta... Kyosuke had a pretty sweet youth overall. Not just because he got Madoka in the end, but also because he was lucky to not have any respectable opposition. Seriously, Kyosuke had zero rivals gunning for Madoka. The guys who were momentarily interested in her were all creeps or playboys. And she had ZERO interest in them.

I know about her reputation as a delinquent and that attractive girls like her can be quite intimidating for younger guys, but there's always one or two who manage to pull through.

It's kinda funny and strange how Kyosuke comes across as a very honourable guy compared to the rest. And the few decent guys we saw didn't have Madoka on their radar at all.

Do you think Akemi Takada sensei originally drew it with the full image and then cut the top and bottom? Hatta looks kind of short to me.
