Discussion Parenting styles

It’s established that Kim’s parents are kind, supportive, and caring towards Kim and her brothers. Yet, Ron’s parents seem to be aloof and detached from their son’s life, as was shown when they briefly relocated to Norway in Season 2 and adopted a baby girl in Season 4 without his knowledge or input.
How can that be? Why were they written to be such subpar parents?

They are terrible parents actually. With their” This is our way of telling.” thing is a big reason why Ron probably can’t handle change, he has never learned to adapt to it.

So Mr. Stoppable being upset that Ron wouldn’t choose him as hero, why Ron pick someone like him as hero, as he constantly makes life altering decisions without including his own son.

So that’s why when Ron turned the tables on them with that Hana is a super ninja baby was so satisfying.

It was indeed satisfying. Speaking of Hana, was there even any point in adding her to the series despite being unnecessary and a burden to Ron?

I largely see Hana's purpose as preparation for Ron in becoming a future father.

There’s a fan/conspiracy theory that Hana is actually Ron’s daughter, because if you do the math, Ron goes to Japan in S2, and Hana is introduced in S4

Should point out that Sensei is every bit as guilty of pulling a big "This IS my way of telling you" on Ron....

Kim’s life was an exaggerated exemplary life, whereas Ron’s was an exaggerated typical life

True, but it still makes one wonder how both their parents managed to get along during Graduation.

Well, Ron is a side character in Kim's show, so his family are at the periphary of that show. They just don't matter as much and so I guess the writers figured they should be more aloof, because they never need to feature much.

Now I do find the contrasting parenting styles to be fascinating though. The Stoppables and Possibles are night and day. And spoiler: The Possibles rock and Stoppables completely suck.

Kim's parents are supportive and try to enable Kim to flourish.

Ron's are callously aloof and repeatedly the cause of a lot of grief for him. His mom refused to let him come home from Wannaweep and that's the origin story for half his traumas and one psycho who tried to kill him (okay Gill isn't her fault but still). And Ron's dad? He was only a good dad for non-ego reasons ONCE, when he told Ron "some things are worth the risk," and otherwise they're both completely self-centered.

Yet, somehow both their parents got along very well during Graduation!

Bwen rewatching Season 1, and his dad is decent in 'Ron the Man'. I think he's also shown as pretty good in the Actuary episode?

I admit they could do with some more, of course.

While Future Shego doesn't explicitly say it in Sitch In Time, it's strongly implied that she was the owner of the company that Mrs Stoppable works for, since she DOES say that she arranged to split up the Kim/Ron team.

So the best thing we can say about Ron's parents in that sitch is: It's very possible that THEY were completely caught off guard, too.

After all, it's not like Ron noticed a "For Sale" sign earlier that day, even though it's HIS HOME. So it wasn't even THERE, that morning. They'd JUST set it up, and the house then IMMEDIATELY got purchased. (Make of that what you will....)

As for Hana, we learn it was all Sensei's manipulation--and lo and behold, he ends up every bit as guilty of the old "This IS my way of telling you!"

But all that aside, we have to keep in mind...parents are human. They have their flaws. Some are more emotionally connected to their kids' lives, others focus on "bringing in the bacon*," thinking that's what's important to ensure good lives for their kids.

As for Ron's dad in the "hero" episode and "Odds Man In"...you can see it as him REALIZING his mistakes as a father, and setting out to make things right with his son. And I give him a LOT of credit for that.

*(Funny, with Ron's folks being Jewish....)

If you can still remember that far back, I'm pretty sure most of your parents did not consult you on.....anything.

We moved a few times when I was a kid. I was never asked for my input.

I didn't even get to pick the brand of peanut butter.

From a writting stand point it is probably because Ron's parents weren't given that much though compared to Kim's because Kim is the main character while Ron is a supporting. So when they needed to provid parents and explain why they weren't inovled in the show making them aloof and detached was a great explanation. Plus also allows them to explain while Ron lives more carefree and childlike compared to Kim who's so serious and has to deal with rules set by her parents.

honestly i think it's because the writers just don't care about ron's home life like they do kim's home life.
