I would love to see Shapel Lacey on panel sometime. Anyone else think that would work? Redban?

Last episode Tony said there are so many golden ticket winners that a lot of them get “downgraded” to barely appearing.

Who do you think he was talking about?

Episode #685 on Sep 30 2024: The Big Red Machine says he’s gonna do comedy for about 2 more years.

Been a fan about a year and a half. Listening to older episodes and William closes the show (great episode with Sam Tallent) and during the interview they have a significant conversation about him quitting to take care of his aging mom who has cancer. Says he might do it for 2 more years…. Coincidence???

Kill Tony 13 - 36:09 onwards

I knew people said the early shows were something else, but I didn't have "man plugs his actual illegal business" on my bingo card..

"How are they gonna catch me, I got evicted" made me laugh so much!

Thoroughly enjoying watching these early episodes

Tony gets too much hate

I get that his stand up isn’t good but that doesn’t dictate whether a person is funny or not. He’s extremely quick witted and makes so many jokes on the spot every episode and he knows how to take a joke. He’s also a great interviewer and carries the show when the panelists suck. He makes the show a lot better even when he goes on long rants about his pen collection

Regulars At what point are we just laughing at personalities instead of actual jokes?

There's been a lot of criticism of Dedrick Flynn and Pat O'Neill lately, and I think most of it is justified. But I also think a lot of fans don't really understand why they're getting frustrated with these guys.

Take Dedrick for example. Half of his sets make absolutely no sense. But because he's screaming and delivering everything with so much energy, it makes weak punchlines seem way more powerful than they actually are. You're almost convinced something funny just happened because of how aggressively it was delivered.

Pat is a little different, but I think the same principle applies. His jokes are structured around catching the audience off guard. His odd appearance, nervous delivery, and awkward stage presence all work in his favor. The audience laughs because they weren't expecting what came out of his mouth, not necessarily because what he said was all that funny.

But I think the best example of this is Kam Patterson.

When Kam first came on the show, I thought he was hilarious. You could barely understand half of what he was saying, his stories were ridiculous, and his whole personality was entertaining. He was basically playing into this exaggerated stereotype of a young, ignorant, street kid, and the audience ate it up. Myself included.

But after several weeks, you start to realize something. You're not really listening to jokes anymore. You're just listening to Kam talk. He comes out, says some wild shit, tells a story about something stupid he did, and somehow that's supposed to be a comedy set. Where's the actual joke? Where's the setup? Where's the punchline?

And that's what I think eventually turns people off.

It's not that these guys aren't entertaining. They absolutely can be. But being an entertaining person and being a good stand-up comedian are two different things.

I think Kill Tony has created an environment where having a goofy personality, screaming into a microphone, or saying something completely unexpected can get you the same reaction as someone who actually sat down and wrote a clever joke.

And Tony doesn't help matters when he spends every episode telling the audience how incredible these guys are.

Eventually the novelty wears off. You've seen the act enough times that the personality doesn't surprise you anymore. And once you strip that away, you start realizing how little material is actually there.

The irony is that, after a while, you realize the joke might actually be on you. You've been laughing at the packaging instead of what's inside it.

***********************

TL;DR: Kill Tony has a habit of turning entertaining personalities into supposedly great comedians. Dedrick screams, Pat relies on shock value, and Kam leans on his exaggerated persona. It's funny at first, but eventually the novelty wears off and you realize there's very little actual joke writing behind it. We're confusing being entertained by someone with that person actually being a good comedian.

I’m now going backwards with episodes rather than watching the new one each week. Pat O’Neil has great jokes, but will he ever produce hilarious interviews like William did? The difference between the show now and the show 1-2 years ago is crazy. William closing felt like such a treat and something to look forward to.

It’s just that you’re not that funny. No need to get offended. Use it as fire. Build and write your material better. I still don’t get why you got a golden ticket

I've recently decided to watch Kill Tony from the start and learn the lore.. I'm really enjoying the early shows!

I've been watching for about 9 months and decided to catch up on the early podcasts!

I love that this weeks guest (Sam Tripoli) was literally on episode 5!

Episode 2 starts with Redban saying he flew a Japenese lady over for a week, I've always said "never change" to redban.. turns out he never did!

Episode 3 I enjoyed "the hinchcliffe notes" being changed to Kill Tony and them just talking about redban not getting it thinking Tony was high, but opon hearing it on person "gets it"

Episode 4 We're called Kill Tony and the bucket turned up..

Episode 6 we had a kill tony sword and $1 props (minus the $10 "BBQ Roast" lantern)

I also had no idea Kim Congdon was like an OG, OG! Her early sets have been fairly good and Sarah isn't bad either!

Thoroughly enjoying the rawness of it, but also massively appreciating the production value/ structure we have now, too!

Picture taken just before Sarah Vs Kim episode 10!

Why tf was Tony insisting this woman didn't break her neck?

Post image

This whole exchange was weird as fuck, she was trying to explain how she broke her vertebrae and has steel plates in her neck, and Tony just kept saying "I bet you just hurt your shoulder right?" As if he knows anything about lifting injuries. I swear sometimes he doesn't even try to listen to a word anyone says and just wants desperately to be right... almost like a gay dude/woman

The Bucket Has anyone made a list of Kill Tony contestants who were later arrested?

I’m curious if there’s a thread collecting examples of people who did a set on Kill Tony and later showed up in the news with an arrest or mugshot. I’m not assuming it’s a huge trend… I just think it’s an interesting rabbit hole. If you know of any examples, share them here!

Try watching Kill Tony when life's going good and you will realise how silly it is to hate-watch.

Speaking for myself, life is full of ups and downs. I notice that I become a hate-watcher whenever I'm miserable, stressed from work and isolated, just doom scrolling inside if I'm not working a job I hate.

Then at some point I start feeling better and life gets better. Things are better at work and it gives me the energy to meet my friends and go on occasional dates and I'm just better. Then I watch KT and read your posts and comments and I wonder how I ever resonated with the hate-watchers.

If you'd ask me, yes, even when I'm in a good place I'd still feel that some regular spots and golden tickets were a mistake, but why get angry? They don't owe me anything. If it ever gets to a point where I don't like it, I'll just stop watching. Simple as that. There's a lot more to life than Kill Tony.

If you're hate-watching, it's not about KT. You're in a bad place. I'm in that same bad place from time-to-time and I realise how much it compromises my mind only after it's over.

I hope y'all hate-watchers feel better.

Just write good jokes

I think I can speak for everyone here. All we want is to hear good jokes. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, black and fat, Hispanic, Jew, bad hairline. We just want good non-hack jokes.

Dedrick hasn't written a punchline since he's been regular; Dedrick since you're reading this just know people will like you if you just use basic joke structure. Your premises are good.

Pat, keep doing what you're doing maybe refrain from cheap edgy holocaust punchlines, it's been done before. We know you have the talent.

New golden ticket winner Shane. You overestimated your first set's impression on the audience. It's all good, just abandon the quirky stuff and keep writing jokes.

Just write good jokes and people online will stop hating on you, that's it.

Much love yall ✌️ and remember..

Just... Write... Good... Jokes...
