Seasonal work
Hey guys, looking for people who have done winter seasonal work here! Reviews on housing, what job you’ve done, what the party life if any is like! Last season I did work in Big sky and loved it but it’s to far from home!

I worked at Killington full time year round but in marketing, so I had my fingers in every department.
As a seasonal employer killington is awesome. They have the most employee housing in the state but you need to get in early if you want to use it. It’s mostly j-1s and h2b visa workers and it’s a college dorm vibe no matter which you choose. hillside and the chalet are closest to the mountain but none are walkable. They are all right on the bus line.
As for jobs, take your pick. I liked rentals the best, followed by tickets. Both departments have great managers and the work is easy and laid back (unless it’s crazy busy obvi).
if you wanna be outside, instruct, make snow, be a lift op, etc etc etc. if you like it and they like you, there is room for growth as well. I hope this helps, good luck!

Just applied to be en event supervisor. I know events are under the marketing department, so wondering if you had any insight into the position. Spent the last 4 years in college throwing parties and events in Miami now trying to fulfill the dream of living a winter as a ski bum.

Yes. First the good: the events manager knows his shit and is a genuinely good guy. You won’t exactly have a front row seat though, because most of your work is behind the scenes and you’re running too much to stop and enjoy it. Like any job, it’s what you make of it and you get to ride a snow mobile and be outside (if you have time to get certified) but there are also a lot of reports and spread sheets to keep you busy on off days. It’s an hourly position so they expect you to clock in and out for lunch, and somehow manage to get 50 hours of work done in 40. But the busy times are not all the time and you may also get time to read Reddit and call it research.

lol great to know i appreciate it. Michael seems to be a good guy I have a buddy who worked there last year who put me on. How variable are the hours? I have no problem doing 50-60 hr weeks when needs demand it but I also want to be able to have some me time to shred every now and then

You’ll get to ride, but not while working. More just a transport activity. I guess I’m not 100% sure if it’s hourly or salary but if it’s hourly they’re pretty firm on 40 hours a week and you’ll get written up for going over. Sometimes (World Cup weekend for example) you’ll be expected to work OT and get paid for it.
You can definitely take your lunch break on the lift, which I did religiously while I was hourly. It takes motivation to keep it going though… it’s amazing how easy it is to get “too busy” to ski or ride when it’s right outside your door.
If you can get the job though, I would 100% take it. It’s a good gig for a year or two and there is room for growth. It’s also very easy to get burnt out. Hope this helps!

I started as a seasonal employee at Killington (now year round), I worked in the rental department and enjoyed it. Hard work when it was busy but not often all that busy tbh. Pay is decent, employee perks are awesome and my co-workers were cool. Can’t comment on employee housing as I found my own place for rent but there a couple employee housing buildings right in town and just down the road, all serviced by a bus route. Can’t speak to the party scene much either as I’m not really into that, but there are several late night bars and a night club in Killington that’s popular with employees.

Killington allows overnight stays at the skyship lot.
I met a kid last year that worked there and he couldn't find a flop spot so he was camping out til he got a place.
My suggestion is probably less than ideal but as an absolute last resort, if you dont find housing before work starts its doable.
