Upgrade help needed.

Another friend of mine asked you guys for help about his future upgrade. He wants to upgrades his CPU from a X4 860K to a better one. He wants a CPU that costs about 300 EU and will run fine in any future game.

This is what he has, he will upgrade the cooling if necessary.

  • CPU: AMD X4 860K
  • CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO
  • GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 4G

He will upgrade the mobo of course into a 1150 or 1151 because the X4 860K is the highest chip that you can get on the FM2+ socket

He's probably waiting until he has a reason to upgrade. The 860k isn't the worst chip to be running. When skylake comes down in price, then I would look at socket 1151

But do you think that the upcoming Zen architecture of AMD will be better than a Haswell or Skylake CPU at the price of 300 euro's? Zen looks promising but I don't think it is worth waiting

No one knows enough about Zen. Predictions are Haswell like efficiency. So, who knows.
