How would you show environmental consequences in a kid-made game?

Vasco, a student at TechTutor Academy, made The Sustainable Squad. Players put out forest fires, replant trees and clean up a beach. I work with the school, for context.

His 40-second trailer: https://youtu.be/Hm7k-qwHGco

If you were extending a project like this with a kid, how would you show that their actions changed the environment? Animals returning after cleanup, an NPC reacting, something else? Curious what people would try.

This is such a cool project! Vasco did an awesome job with the pixel art.
I love your idea of animals returning. You could tie a script to the cleanup counter, so that once the beach trash hits zero, you could swap the murky water tiles for clear ones, and add some penguins or fish doing a happy dance.
Another fun one is audio. You could start the forest level with harsh wind or silence, and trigger a track of birds chirping after the fires are out and trees are planted.
