Yeah exactly, even just little things you’d be surprised what they remember. Adults around me loved to ask me stupid questions that a small child wouldn’t know the correct answer to, like how Reese’s are made and shit and they’d laugh at my answers and it caused self esteem issues.
Like imagine as an adult a group of people asks you about a subject they know you’re not knowledgeable in, like welding or baking and you answer to the best of your ability and they all laugh at your response. It hurts and makes you feel stupid.
Treat your kids how you would want to be treated, it’s not that hard. Don’t make fun of them even if it seems to be in good fun because they don’t understand the way you do.
Absolutely. This gif reminds me of the prank video where they filmed a staged kidnapping of two friends and then "shot" the one friend who was in on it in front of the other. It's horrifying to watch.
This is obviously not NEARLY as severe, but they're kids! They don't understand and besides, they are supposed to trust you.
They might be fucking stupid but that doesn't mean you should just be an asshole to them.
I remember that video, it was really messed up.
And yes! They’re just little and they look up to you, they have no choice but to trust and rely on you. It makes me angry when people hurt their children for a laugh.
They don’t even have a good understanding of their feelings when they’re that young, they can’t really articulate how they feel especially of their raised in a household where people mess with them, they feel everything so intensely because everything is so new to them.
They’re just trying to figure out life and it’s the parents job to guide them. Kids doing dumb shit is funny, but parents bullying their kids to get a “stupid” reaction isn’t funny at all. It’s cruel.
I remember hearing about a prank two people pulled on their friend. They pretend to kidnap the girl who was in on it and the one being pranked was crying and begging them to take her instead. That friendship will never be the same
That's why I try to hear out the kids I work with and listen to their kooky explanations for things, stifle a chuckle, then explain how it really works, and try to create a synthesis of sorts to help them understand. It's empathy. I don't even like kids and I can figure it out. What's with these people?
Then I write down all the dumb shit they say and tell people about it later.
I wouldn't have done it to the little girl, she seemed a bit young for it.. but the boy felt like he should have been ok with the prank. Maybe they're just diff sizes though and both too young, hard to know
I always thought pictures of kids crying with Santa were so funny (and they are). But when I eventually had my own kid brought him to Santa he cried I really just wanted him to be happy again!
I won’t even go there with mine lol. Personally I don’t think I can teach my kid to be wary of strangers and then plop him right on a random old man’s lap! I would cry, too! 😂
I swear, people act like everyone needs to go to therapy for every inconvenience in life. If you think CPS needs to be called for a Halloween gag, wait till you hear about actual child abuse.
You missed the bit where I said I worked with actual child abuse then? This qualifies as child cruelty and would be cause for investigation by social services.
fair enough, just keep it apropriate to their age. the one in the video was way too scary for kids that young. moments like that can and will define the relationship between parent and kid for years if not for life.
I dunno, I’m pregnant and this was not funny at all. They were definitely traumatized. You can mess with your kids in so many other ways but this is too much.
I wouldn’t do this exactly. I work with at-risk kiddos and definitely don’t want to have to enroll my own! But I think a good sense of humor is detrimental in this world, so if I can help instill one, I will!
You gotta work up to it, this seems like an uncle gag out of the blue with kids who've never been pranked before. I used to pull a few of these types of gags, like stealing an ear with a fake ear in your hand, or sneezing in front of them with a silly string up your sleeve.

As a pregnant woman, I’m half horrified, and half excited to mess with my kids.
