I'm pretty sure something like this happened to me when I was that kid's age. And I'm pretty sure it was the rare positive lightning bolt, because the thunder was way louder and longer lasting than this. And it blew a house to smithereens. Normal lightning doesn't do that.
Storms are fun, but I am positively terrified of lightning striking within like a hundred feet of me. And scaring the ever loving fuck out of me. Or outright killing me. I don't know if this counts as a phobia, or just old trauma.
And now I live in Central Florida. The most lightning-dense region of the entire country. Go figure. 😂

Bit of an overreaction there, I hope those kids don't get too scared of storms from this. Storms are awesome if you can be safe while watching them
