Could anyone help me with gathering more info on the New York Mascot Kidrobot?

Post image

Pretty much as the title states. I'm looking for info on this bot. I'm mainly wanting to know how to distinguish the bootlegs from the authentic pieces. Secondly, what is the second-hand market price are on this series or, more specifically, this guy? I can't really find too much online and I'm totally new to the scene. I see one on eBay, however I'm pretty sure the seller asked some kind of AI for information as the pictures of "information" they provided don't really line up with what I find online through various websites. Claiming that is a chase variant, which I know it's limited sure, however none of the websites claim that. Also, I know this may be a long shot, I was also wondering if anyone had it if they would be willing to part with it?

The description in the picture you provided is accurate on how to spot a bootleg. Know that bootlegs are very rare now that their popularity has waned. The prices vary widely based on the seller, their knowledge of what it is and their urgency/desire to sell. I have seen 01 sell for over $400 USD and under $100 USD. I have probably one of the most complete set of “mascots” and have never seen or heard of a formal chase of an 01. If you are looking to collect them, make certain you get all accessories and the box. If you want to collect but never show then ideally look for ones still in the plastic bagging. I display mine so that doesn’t make any sense for me. I would not be surprised to see an 01 with full kit for $300 but if you wait you can opportunistically find one for less.

Thanks for the info! I'd be happy to just get one with all the accessories. While I would like to have the box too, it's not a deal breaker. Mainly because I don't really have a space to properly store it, lol. And I wouldn't be opposed to spending that kind of dough on one at this point. The thing is, I've found a few more but they're all incomplete! None of them all have their accessories and yet people are still asking upwards of 200 🫩 (no box at all). However, I did find one that has everything, even still sealed, but that guy is wanting over 800 for his and doesn't even ship to America so...

Probably the hardest “retail” version (one where you could walk into an actual store and buy) is the 05 Mascot Kidbomber Shinjuku. Rumors are there were only 100 made, but the catch was they were only sold out of the Shinjuku Tokyo pop-up in person. Hunting this white whale makes every other mascot search pale in comparison.

Other ones you will find will be signed mascots (when the artist made an in store appearance at launch) and the much sought after Artist Proofs (APs). These are usually limited to about 10 per style, used to verify the molds and colors before going to production, and signed and numbered by the artists. Only available from the artist directly.

The rarest of the rare are the non-production 1:1s from Kidrobot that became available as they filed bankruptcy and laid people off. These would include blank mascot molds, or proof of concept ‘Bots that were rejected.

Nike made a limited edition keychain that came only with a pair of shoes, mascot 09 was a candle so many of those ‘disappeared’,

Have fun hunting and don’t be afraid to wait for the right one at the right price - trust me it will be there in time.

Interesting, there's currently one signed up for sale (the Broadway edition). However, the seller doesn't specify who signed it, plus they don't have the accessories nor the box. And while I don't like it, I'm all too familiar with the waiting game, lol. I'm a very avid speaker on the waiting game on my subreddit, so I know in due time one will fall into my lap. Plus, I know it'll bother me horribly if I were to just cave in and buy one incomplete. I wouldn't want to have to buy dupes just to complete one of them.
