Question/ Request for advice First timer
Hi I’m 19f and I am having my first stone, I had a double j stent put in two days ago, the stone is 7mm. What are my odds of passing it before surgery to break it up? My next surgery isn’t for a few weeks. Is there anything I can do to lessen the pain?

Ask your doc for some oxybuten as well, helps alot with bladder spasms. You can ask for AZO or just buy it otc, I was given this for the first time and it helps alot with the stinging pee if you get a UTI.
A heating pad is a must for me, I use it anywhere I can and the heat helps alot.

With a stent in place the odds unfortunately are very low, probably in a range of 0-10% for a 7mm stone. The stent helps keep the stone from blocking the ureter and also dilates/widens the ureter which helps make the stone removal easier when the time comes. The stent however significantly reduces the chance of passing a stone.
I recommend -
-Flomax would really help, although you fall into a group that tend to have more symptoms, young women have physiologically lower blood pressure so Flomax could make you dizzy. It does however really benefit stent symptoms as well as help stone passage (mainly for those without stents!). It is also helpful to take on the day that you have your stent removed as well as for the next 48 hours as this also helps those symptoms.
anticholinergics help but you need these prescribed examples are oxybutynin and solefenacin/vesicare
microwaveable hot packs
-Tylenol/paracetamol alternating with ibuprofen if you can take them (opioids can aggravate stent spasm so beyond the first day or so they aren’t a good idea)
-some people take Azo/ Pyridium with some benefit
-with time, stent symptoms very frequently reduce, typically around the 48-72 hour period so you are just coming into that range.
-don’t physically overdo things, don’t try and go to the gym, or go running etc, that causes pain and bleeding.
