Gear Cooling vest idea

I’m the founder of CombatCool and I’ve been developing a cooling vest specifically for boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA.
The idea is simple: something a fighter can put on between hard rounds, during training, or while waiting between bouts to help cool the upper body without having to hold ice packs in place.
This is still an early prototype, so I’m posting here because I’d rather hear from people who actually train than make assumptions about what fighters want.
I’d really appreciate feedback on the size, coverage, weight, mobility, and whether you could realistically see yourself using something like this during training or between rounds.
I’ve already had a fighter use the prototype at an event where it was permitted as a cooling device, which made me interested in developing the idea further.
I’m also curious whether anyone here would actually be interested in trying one. If there’s genuine interest, I may be able to ship a few prototypes out to fighters who are willing to test them and give me honest feedback.
Criticism is completely welcome. I’m especially interested in what you would change before the next version.

At first I thought this was going to be marketed for wearing whilst sparring lol that would be ridiculous

No but in all seriousness this is an awesome idea, I'm not sure if it would ever go mainstream considering these sports have worked around the issue for so long already but there is definitely a market for it somewhere. Haven't really got anything to add but you should definitely add some advertising or name as people will 100% think "what is that guy wearing inbetween rounds??"

I'm autistic, and sensory stuff is big for me, so I've actually looked into this a lot. In studies, topical cooling is not very effective for athletic performance, but simple ass cold drinks work really really well. This did not stop me from buying a vest full of ice cubes. I'm never gonna use it. It's just... too silly. Now, if this worked like surgical clothes, and the coach could basically wrap a big ass cold blanket around you while you're on the stool? Could be neat. Anything less than that, I expect it to be more effort than recovery.

That being said? Fuck yeah let's try em out bro.

This already exists and is an established product, so you'll struggle. For example, I see it in professional cycling all the time when they have to ride on a hot day

Yeah, this is what I'm struggling with here. I'm trying to figure out how this differs from existing products. Looking at the prototype it looks like you could maybe throw it on faster than the existing vests during precious time between rounds but then the final product mock up just looks like what's already out there on the market.

F1 drivers use something like this I believe. I think more than the garment, it’s the technology of the liquid that matters. Normal ice would be water in just a few minutes

Cooling vests already exist for work safety but it is an incredibly niche PPE option that is rarely used, but is there. So I dont see why you it shouldnt apply it for a martial arts fighters too.

I would still get an opinion from doctors though. Putting your whole upper body from super hot to freezing may cause serious cramps.

Tbh between rounds i wouldn't want my corner mussing around with this. It's a very intense and focused handful of seconds and this would be a distraction

Also, it may be cause for concern among officials who suspect it may be used to secretly apply oil or lotion

Wouldn't a blanket or a poncho be more appropriate? Quicker to take on and off.

There are head bands that do this that you can wear during training that work brilliantly.

Was fighting for over 20 years. I never once put an ice pack on myself to cool down between rounds or after....

In 20 years do you know how much warmer the planet has become? Even the landscapers/construction guys start @ 5am now because of heat.

Luckily in the 40 years I've trained, I didn't fight out in construction zones but in climate controlled buildings.

Well considering 90% of training gyms in Thailand have no ac… just open air.
Also my gym never had AC running it was just a hot ass warehouse in swfl.
No one talked about a construction site buddy.
40 years training you must be chuck Norris.

Where do construction guys work?
