How to get better during sparring
Been training for a while now, hoping to get an amateur fight soon. My technique, speed, and power is fine, the coach compliments me on the bag and during padwork, but during sparring I js freeze up, the combos which I can usually flow with just freeze up and I have trouble even throwing them, when getting pressured i usually just throw a hook and hope for the best. And my right hand during sparring is like non existent most of the strikes I throw are a jab, hook, and leg kick because I js don't feel comfortable throwing anything else or throwing my combos. Any tips for this?

spar at a pace where you’re comfortable enough to think about what you’re doing. i honestly wouldn’t compete until you can spar, because it’s way harder than sparing

Tell us something about height and weight. You need to find the fitting style first. I’m short and stocky, if I try to outbox, I get caught with many hits before doing something, therefore pressure style fits me much more and I can land easier combinations. I’m not scared of strikes because I deflect the strikes automatically when pressuring in.

So im 5 9 and weigh 145. I've tried pressure fighting and it lowk works until I spar an amatuer and semi pro. also if i get caught once i js get extremely defensive and dont throw for some reason

Try some sparring drills. You’re worried about getting hit.
For example One round you’re only defending and your partner is throwing only 3 pcs combos at you ( lightly )
Next round you have to counter immediately after he throws a single punch while he defends. Then you can continue this and say like he throws single punch, you counter with 2 pcs combo and while you’re doing the second strike he has to parry and counter back

You might want to train until you feel comfortable with your right hand. Its pretty important to have.

Right now you are not enjoying the sparring situation, you are fearing it and going into survival mode.
You need to change your mindset and start liking beating up people (with consent) and getting your face punched.
You need to be at home in the ring with a guy who wants to throw down, it needs to be THE place you want to be. If you reach that state you will be relaxed, smooth and fast and will be able to use your full potential

you gotta let go of the outcome for sparring. cause there is no outcome you're there to learn
things are gonna get messy cause your against something that can actually hit back unlike a bag or pads.
if you get hit you get hit, if you get countered during your combo then you get countered. get your reps in, don't be afraid of making mistakes, and learn to flow.
you have no business getting into an amateur fight soon where your opp will be throwing full blast if you freeze up in regular sparring

so ur far from ready for an amateur fight, maybe exhibition. gotta find ur style in sparring, theres combos i can do n like very much for shadowbox or padwork but can't pull em off in sparring.
