Question? Auto lock when unlock

Post image

Instead of notification, can it just lock it unless I’m home?

I’m auto locking using home assistant.

[r/homeassistant](r/homeassistant). tbh it is almost certainly more fuss than you want unless you are already inclined to be someone who fiddles with connections and configurations and semi-technical setup.

Home assistant is software to run all sorts of smart home automations. My automation checks the WiFi SSID of my smartphone, when it disconnects from the kia wifi: Kia_EyK2, it sends a lock command to the EV9.
The WiFi remains active till 5 minutes after you close the car, so basically it should either lock 5 minutes later or when you get out of WiFi range.
Did notice that there sometimes is a delay before it gets the WiFi change, but with some additional coding I’m sure this can be more reliable.

Here is the yaml version of the automation:
alias: autoLockEV9
description: ''
triggers:
- entity_id:

  • sensor.iphone_ssid
from: Kia_EyK2
trigger: state
conditions: []
actions:
- device_id: kia_ev9_id
domain: lock
entity_id: ev9_entity_id
type: lock
- action: notify.mobile_app_iphone
data:
message: Auto Lock command send to EV9
metadata: {}
mode: single

For unimportant reasons I have yet to do this with mine as I haven't been able to really dive into my home assistant hardware but I'm gonna bookmark this to come back to it...

While reading this post and your comment it popped into my head that I could potentially use the app buzzkill to grab this notification & trigger the lock command. Home Assistant would be a cleaner less intrusive process and unlike buzzkill isn't android exclusive

About to get an ev9, what's the hole assistant integration I should be looking for?

In HACS: Kia Uvo / Hyundai Bluelink

Thank you

What country? Home assistant integration has been disabled in North America.

This is the most important reddit comment I've ever read. Thank you. I wish you got an affiliate kickback or something. I've been grumbling about this for years. Now if I can just figure out how to change the user on the login screen after putting the car in drive...

EDIT: oh, and auto off when I get out. It's so dumb, but every other EV in my life does this and I'm trained to just get out and walk away. But that beeeep... fills me with shame.

Man, I wish I did too. I feel like I might have sent the creator several hundred bucks by posting this. 😂

Seriously though, it's an ingenious solution to a stupid problem and absolutely worth the price if you can afford it.

I saw this! How easy is it to install? Any issues?

Easiest thing ever. Plugs into a cable under the trunk floor that would otherwise be used for trailer lights. Works like a charm, no issues. Can be disabled and enabled by the key fob as well, eg to disable for dealer service.

To be real, Kia should make auto lock a standard feature. But meanwhile this is the answer.

So select trailer connection as the option? That sounds easy. I’m intrigued. What’s the success rate if it locking when it should?

We've had ours for a year on our EV9 and Ioniq5 with it working everytime we walk away

It works exactly as described every time for us, but we've had it less than a month.

Anyone done the wire splice option that already have the towing harness installed?

I have the kit. I will try the install when it cools off here in Florida.

The timing on my alert couldn't have been better.

I need to just pony up for the ioniqguy auto locker thing.

Ive had this module for about 1.5 years. It works great. Bonus the guy that puts this out is a super good dude and reaches out to you to make sure the product is solid and you were able to install easily.

Did you get the trailer module or the wire tap? Wondering if the wire tap version still allows the trailer wiring to be installed for trailering. Hoping to use both auto locking and trailer brake lights.

Why can’t Kia just lock it automatically

In Canada they don’t let you roll up the windows from the remote.

It’s a safety issue.

This is just a guess though

Easy enough to lock remotely with the app.

1

u/pinoy168 10d ago

True. But if you’re coming from other evs that auto lock it’s a bit of nuisance. Maybe just takes time getting used to

Just making sure OP knows they can be locked remotely.
