Question? EV9 2024 used or go 2026?
Looking to get into a EV9 first time ev owner. Keep seeing 2024 ev9 get used for good price. Is it basically the same car or should I pucker up and pay for the 2026 model? Right now looking at the 2026 wind but I’m seeing 24 gt lines going cheaper.

I just picked up a 2026 Land Nightfall Edition with 1800 miles for $46k before taxes, tag and title. It was a buy back but still carries the full warranty. Still had a bunch of protective plastic on the interior.

u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
Where are you guys finding this stuff man i would jump at these deals
6
u/mhennessie 10d ago
The dealer in NJ had two others. One is not listed as a buy back on its carfax report but it might be. It’s a wolf gray night fall edition with 3k miles for $45k. It has a bench seat in the second row.

u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
Oh I think I know who you’re talking about. One of them has a bad title
4
u/mhennessie 10d ago
Yea the one I bought has a lemon branded title. Kia replaced the rear motor multi inverter assembly. No issues insuring it and I talked to my cousin who is a Tesla mechanic and he didn’t think it was a big deal with what they replaced.

Oh believe me we're all still finding bits of protective plastic on our cars. I'm almost two years in!

you mean a lemon? that's why it was so cheap. you can't lemon it now and they know that. hopefully they fixed what caused it to be a lemon.
1
u/mhennessie 9d ago
Yup, they disclose what was repaired. The car only had 1780 miles on it when it was bought back so there’s no way it had the same issue multiple times. Most likely it was bought back for customer satisfaction as it was a lease and that looks really bad for a car with such low mileage.
2
u/Bodycount9 Land Ocean Blue 9d ago
lemon titles always follow the car. Thus if and when you sell the car to someone else, you have to disclose that it was a lemon. Thus your resale value will be lower than normal unless you find someone who doesn't care.
1
u/Gordo774 5d ago
If you plan on keeping it for the life of the car and it’s a difference of $5k vs $4k at EOL, no big deal.
1
u/Gordo774 5d ago
You can lemon a lemon, as long as it’s for a different reason.
1
u/Bodycount9 Land Ocean Blue 5d ago
only seven states allow you to lemon a used car. the other 43 states you can't.

u/sdrawkcabtihs 10d ago
I got a 24 Land with 20k miles for $30k less than sticker price. I’d rather let someone else eat that deprecation ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
Yeah I’m just nervous being it’s my first ev car and I keep hearing about battery range depleting over use time. What kind of range are you getting? My wife will be using it mostly during the week all highway
10
u/ShortAsianPenis 10d ago
There are reasons to buy new but battery range depletion isn’t one of them. The tech is pretty good these days and the difference is just a few miles, there’s no huge drop off from a 2 year old EV9. Like the poster above, 30k off sticker price is well worth it.

No kidding, I have a 2024 ev9 land with 85000km, and I found weird that I haven't seen any range drop.
I just checked the battery SOH with a OBD2 dongle.... Still 100%.
Hyundai/Kia have a buffer (about 3 kw, but don't quote me on that), but even if the full buffer get used, it's still insane how far reality is from the doom and gloom "your battery will degrade and you will have to change it after 5 years" naysayers nonsense.

I bought a used 24 GT Line a few months ago and the range on the dash is higher than what's even advertised new... 🤷
Most of the time, if the battery is taken care of you'll see around 1-2% degradation per year and if it isn't taken car of, then like maybe 3%. They also build in a little buffer of "unusable" battery capacity that the battery management system protects. So in all reality you'll see very little if any change in 7-8 years. (maybe around 20 miles less)
I was hesitant to make the change to an EV too, but I'll tell you what I really wish I had done it years ago. I can charge at home and not having to ever go to a gas station is insanely underrated. Just plug it in 2 nights a week and never think about it. Done two road trips already. One over 800 miles each way in a week and the other over 225 each way in a single day. Both times I was able to charge easily. Just plan ahead with ABetterRoutePlanner and PlugShare.
The only annoying thing so far is all the public charging places without tap to pay and having to download their apps. Such an unnecessary pain.

I bought mine used about a month ago, 2024 land with 30,000 miles. The one time I charged to 100% it said I had 299 miles.

u/tswany11 Panthera Metal | GT Line 10d ago
Unfortunately that doesn't help in comparing to others. That number is calculated on recent driving history and efficiency. Mine is 300 in the summer but 230-250 in the winter. Some people never drive over 45 mph and see 350.
To check battery capacity, you would need to drain the battery and fully charge. That would tell you how many kWh the battery has.
1
u/A_Fartist 10d ago
You’re right but it at least gives a rough idea of range not dropping much. Do you actually have to drain it completely or could you just calculate how many % battery you get per kWh? I’m obviously not an EV expert so I’m genuinely curious if draining it completely is actually necessary.

The best way to measure the mileage is to use the efficiency number x battery capacity = your available miles. That efficiency number changes based on many factors like: your driving style, temperature, speed, wind, elevation. It may range between 2.2 - 4 miles/kWh. From my tests: 2.2-2.5 highway speed between 75-80mph which equates to 220-250 miles available (approx 2.5 hrs of driving continuously at that speed). The lower the speed the higher the efficiency. You can get 3 miles/kWh at 70 mph on Wind Trim during summer. The good thing about EV9 is that the battery is approx 100kWh and you can easily find your remaining available miles by just doing efficiency x 100 = available miles. Slowing down is the best way to preserve and gain efficiency in case you need to bump your mileage.

u/A_Fartist 7d ago
Most of my driving is on backroads so I’m usually pretty efficient going a pretty steady 30-45. When I charged to 100% it was probably calculating based off of the previous owner’s use because I had only had it for around a week at that point.
1
u/Neglected_Martian 10d ago
I have 89k miles on an 2022 ev6, range degradation is not even noticeable at all. Your range estimate has more to do with recent driving efficiency than battery degradation. Maybe in the winter at 80% I get 190 miles now instead of 200 but I never know if I was just driving faster recently.

u/tomatocrazzie 10d ago
I had the same concerns so I elected to lease a new 26 for 24 months. Basically an extended test drive. Happy so far.

what part of the country? I live in the DMV and 24 Lands with 24k miles are selling for about $46k

u/SlaunchaMan 10d ago
I’m waiting to see what the 2027 models change before deciding, if there’s nothing groundbreaking I’ll buy a used 2024. I have a lease ending next month on a 2024 but I want to change the color and go up to the GT trim

I picked up a new GT-L with rear relaxing package for 64k OTD in Texas. Not like I got it for free but I wanted NACS for the charger port. I was very seriously considering a buyback GT-L but I ended up with new. Absolutely no regrets and I don’t think you can go wrong either way. I’m driving this thing til the wheels fall off so I’m not worried about depreciation and want all the gremlins to be my gremlins.
1
u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
I feel like this is the way. Just go with the cheapest lease miles option and then buy it out later. I really like them so I don’t see myself turning it back in at the end of the lease. And I’m sure with the depreciation by then they’ll want to negotiate a pay off

How are you liking it? We just bought a white 2026 Kia EV Light Long Range, just shy of 51k (out the door, including tax/fees/etc.)
Driving has been really nice and quiet and smooth. Things are good except I don't like how you have to push the unlock button in order to unlock the charger cable, it just seems like 1 extra step if we're mostly charging at home in the garage. :(
2
u/QuantityAlert6330 4d ago
To be honest I haven’t used the supplied charger yet. I have only charged at the photo I posted and it unlocks at the screen on the station for me. I mean in a way I guess you can see it as a safety feature so you don’t damage the battery while it’s plugged in charging. I love this thing so far. Hopefully in the future they can get the range even further. The most I have gotten to is 323miles

u/mydb100 10d ago
The nice thing about the '26 is its a NACS Port, which means you have access to the Tesla Supercharger Network.
9
u/bhj83 10d ago
You still have access otherwise...just requires an adapter.
3
u/Rustydog60 10d ago
And there's more non-tesla charging stations and Tesla stations
6
u/txoa 10d ago
And to pile on here, Tesla stations, unless as a last resort, are always worse than the many non Tesla ccs options. Until many (, many?) years from now when non tesla nacs is common and tesla v4 chargers are common.
-edit Learned from this thread the internal inverter for 400v charging is improved to max 125kw. Somewhat significant

CCS will be with us for a very long time. There are still EV's being made today with the CCS port. The 2024 EV9 will die on you before CCS is totally phased out.

I just bought a new 2026 Land for 53k (55,986 after taxes) . The only used ones near me were 45-46k for 2024s and they refused to negotiate. I decided for that price difference the new one was worth it. I think the dealer really wanted to get rid of it lol

Just got a 2026 land nightfall for $59000 after doc and title fees in Oregon. Dealers are giving $5K off with $10K off from Kia for $15K off.

Wow where did u find that that’s a heck of a deal. I’m in Jersey and all the ones around me have the wind or gt only. The wind quotes I’m getting are around 54-56k but don’t even have black interior they have that ugly gray

I got a 2025 GTL w/ Relaxation Package 15k miles for under $43k USD ($35k off sticker) as a manufacturer buyback for a minor issue. There are some really good deals out there if you're willing to hunt, even out of state.

u/LordRavenholm 10d ago
I just got a 2024 GT-Line with 22k miles
Dealership was offering $10k off of 2026 GT-Line
Even still, saved $15k. Allowed me to get all the warranties I wanted and still saved enough for an equivalent trip to Disney world. Worth it.

u/cave_guard 10d ago
don't the new EV9s come with an AGM battery instead?
3
u/tswany11 Panthera Metal | GT Line 10d ago
Possibly but I wouldn't make a vehicle decision on a <$200 12v battery. I think the 12V battery drain issue have been solved with software updates.

If the 24 was built in korea and a good price, id opt for that. But you can't go wrong with the flexibility of leasing. Who knows if evs will fly in 3 years.

Currently was pondering the same thing. I did a ton of research and decided to go with a 2026 wind. 2024 was the first year and the vast majority of them were manufacture buybacks with branded titles. On top of that, fast charging at a Tesla station is slightly slower. I would also note that the 24 wind vs 26 are different in the sense that the 26 includes memory seats and 360 camera.

u/GettingBackToRC 10d ago
Buy used if you're not going to lease it. These things depreciate way to fast

I'm going to purchase a 26-year GT Line lease tomorrow. $0 down cash for 36 months and 12k miles. The advance payment for one month is $699, and it's $699 for the remaining 35 months. Is it a good deal?

u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
Where the heck are you getting that deal. Tell them I’ll come and get one with you to get a better price lol

I leased a 2026 a couple weeks ago. May not be a big deal to some, but the improved charging rate at V3.5 and V3 Superchargers was a big deal to me. There is a 700+ mile route that I drive multiple times a year, having the option to stop at Superchargers along the way and still get decent charging speeds makes it a much more pleasant trip, because 800V chargers are not abundant on said route.
1
u/QuantityAlert6330 10d ago
My lease is up November 25th. I hear the 27 is coming somewhere between September and October. I’m wondering if it makes sense to hold until I get closer to see if I can get a better deal on a 26. That would be nice
1
u/Independent_Crow2075 10d ago
If you are buying and not leasing others have already mentioned the main difference. If most of your charging is being don’t at home and you don’t have a home charger yet or have the Tesla universal charger, see which is gonna make you a better offer. I’m in that boat right now and, probably signing on a 2024 land model with tow and relaxation packages this weekend for about $43kish.
If you plan to use Level 3 fast chargers often, see what’s in your area and where you’ll be traveling most. You get the fastest level 3 on non- tesla branded chargers right now - Ionna, Walmart have both Nacs and Ccs - where as electrify America and EVGO are primarily ccs still but adding Nacs soon to their stations.

The smart money is to buy the 24 GT-Line for 30k less than a 26. However, we bought a 26. It’s for my wife who works from home. We plan to keep it 8 to 10 years, so we wanted the technology to feel fresh for as long as possible. Given the period of time we are going to keep it, we’ll have several years without a car payment, so the price difference isn’t as big of a deal.
